"SUSPEND HIM!" screamed the reactionary people that tend to scream these things (and also Buffalo fans, though at that point it's kind of the same thing).
"Who cares?" sighed the people whose opinion on the matter was correct. But as with any argument these days, whoever's opinion is loudest is the correct one.
It doesn't matter that it was simple interference. All that matters is there was blood on the play and a stretcher on the ice. The league simply has to give guys a couple of games to think about what they've done.

Frankly, it's embarrassing that Ryan Miller(notes) of the Buffalo Sabres said the league needed to set a precedent with this Hjalmarsson situation. (I don't care that Kaleta is a dirty player and instance that this somehow makes Miller a hypocrite is, of course, ludicrous.) It's just ridiculous that he somehow thinks a precedent wasn't set years ago. Guys have been getting suspended a game or two for hits, legal or not, that put people in the hospital with concussion for awhile now.

I don't know if anybody here cares, but in soccer the number of games a player gets supsended after a red card depends on the injury of the victim, too. not just the kind of the foul.

Where the hell are you from? I live in England and the Premier League does not have that policy. It's 3 games no matter what...and at times not even any suspension if it is appealed by the player and the higher ups agree with the player.
