Post subject:  A HORRIBLE question about Miller

I got the idea for this based on a post in another thread:

Some have speculated ( to Fly as Hale's dismay) that eventually, if the Sabres don't look like they'll win a cup in the next couple years, Miller might be on the lookout for a team that will win.

First, I do have to say, it would be nice to see any player with top skills get rewarded with the championship, even if not on the hometeam.

Second, and here it is....
What is the team you would LEAST mind Miller going to if he ever defected?

Honestly powerplayer, I've given this much thought as of late.
I would like to see Ryan go to LA.
His girlfriend is out there, the team is on the up swing and he could give back a decent return from them, either in roster talent or prospects (I'm not saying Dustin Brown mind you, but they do have a stable of prospects worth a shit, they had an ass load of 2nd and 3rd rd picks the last 3 season).

I think Enroth can come up and we can continue the rebuild.
I would also like to see Connolly, Hecht and Stafford go as well. Preferrably for prospects and/or draft picks.

Vanek, Roy and Pomminville I would keep.

While we're at it, what is also the LAST team you would want to see him play for?

(I know hockey is a business, but I wonder if there are certain teams Miller himself would avoid just because of the emotional animosity toward certain clubs. Remember, the netminder is a much more emotional player!)

You realize you're talking about the NY Yankees of hockey, don't you? Or is that Montreal?

Good question, actually it's Montreal. But Detroit just chaps my ass, they draft fantastically, they have a great management and ownership team and they WIN FUCKING STANLEY CUPS!
Atleast, in the past 15 years they have.

Miller has always said that he doesn't want to be one of those players who joins a team and plays with players he doesn't know just for the sole reason of getting a quick Cup. He's said several times that he would rather win a championship with a group of guys that he knows and that have grown and learned with him.

He proved a few years ago when he signed his extension that he believes in this team and he wants to win the Cup in Buffalo. Everyone speculated he was going to test the market and flee for greener pastures, but he stayed. He likes Buffalo and he likes how the city has embraced him, and he's really invested a lot into the team and the area. He won't just take off like some players do. I don't think he's that flakey.

Yeah, I'm with Caro. One of the specific reasons Miller gave behind signing his new contract was that he is committed to winning a cup in Buffalo.

When you're young and confident, pledges like that seem easy to keep.

As the years wear on and you start to feel as if your talents should have earned you a championship, reality sets in and you start to consider things you never thought you would.

Age and experience does that to these guys. I really can't blame them, considering managements loyalty is to their partners, not players.

If a player does it early on, that's one thing, but if a player, like Miller, has given a team a lot of years to get it's shit together, and they don't, how can you blame them for chasing a childhood dream?

Team I'd least mind him going to - LA

Team I'd hate to see him go to - everyone in the EC, DET, VAN, DAL, and ANA

If he ever leaves the Sabres I hope he goes somewhere in the Eastern Conference because it will be easier for me to follow him.

I don't hold it against any player when they leave because they think it will improve their chances at winning a championship. They have dedicated their entire lives to their sport and have sacrificed a lot to get where they are, so I don't hold any ill will.

Miller getting fed up and wanting to leave has floated in my mind whenever the Sabres play terrible. It wouldn't be uncommon if he decided to take that route. But I don't know. Who knows what he really thinks? At this point, he is our most important asset and our best chance at winning the Cup. So I'm going to sit here and believe that Miller wants to remain in Buffalo until something leads me to believe otherwise.

The question itself is interesting to think about.

However, I really question the timing of it. I kinda wish you'd pick your spots a little better.

Actually, as I mentioned, this idea was floated just tonight in another thread. I just decided to open it up a little further.

And to tell you the truth, if you think about Miller and Sabre fans, there is NO good spot for this discussion.

He may be but it seems that no one else is, especially management. This team is absolutely horrible and I would not hold it against Ryan if he head to greener pastures....
