You may have noticed that I did not include Ilya Kovalchuk. I think it's safe to say that no one wants him on their team right now, but to be fair, Kovalchuk should be on that list, and Hossa should be off.

My first ten is for this year and it's way off since I didn't actually look at anything, and the second is since the lockout.

Yea, I put Stamkos high up on the list even though this is only his third year.

I am not going to rate based on stats alone, but rather style AND who I want to have the puck in crunch time---in other words, who can score under pressure:

#1 Sidney Crosby.
I have always liked Ovie more, but he's struggling lately and choked in the post season and Olympics. Crosby on the other hand, shit, he's a real pressure handler. Gotta like that.

#2. Alexander Ovechkin
I suspect it won't be long before he becomes the Michael Jordan of the ice once again.

#3 Steven Stamkos
Stats are great, but he's not the best go-to goal scorer yet.

#4 Alexander Semin
Sniper City baby!

#5 Marian Hossa
He can get it done when he needs to.

6 Rick Nash
7 Marian Gaborik
8 Dany Heatley
9 Bobby Ryan
10 Thomas Vanek

I wish I could put Vanek higher up, but he's too freakin' streaky and emotional. Great player, just not dependable enough.

Vanek doesn't deserve to be in this discussion. This is about goal scorers, and IMO, that means they go out and get it done. Vanek *can* do that, but doesn't do it nearly consistently enough.

Yea, but this is since the lockout and Kovalchuk absolutely deserves to be on here.

Vanek... not so much.

Wow this is an entertaining thread. Alright, I'll let the cat out.

The basis for ranking goal scorers was Goals per 60 minutes of icetime and nothing more. With that criteria, the rankings (since the lockout) are as follows:

1). Ovechkin - 1.80 g/60 minutes
2). Gaborik - 1.74
3). Stamkos - 1.69
3). Semin - 1.69
5). Vanek - 1.59
6). Heatley - 1.58
7). Kovalchuk - 1.54
8). Ryan - 1.52
9). Crosby - 1.44
10). Nash - 1.42

I'm quite surprised by that.

PP I don't think OV choked at all in his last three playoff appearances. It was the team who choked around him. OV has always been a PPG player even into the playoffs, and last year.

Semin had 2 points in the 7 games they played last year and OV had 10. OV didn't choke. Halak just shut the door on everyone else. When your team is up 3-1, you shouldn't lose, and that's what that team did.

Ovechkin, Heatley, and Crosby would definitely be the top three. I think the rest are pretty much a hit or miss. I feel like Semin and Vanek are the same type of goal scorer - when they're on, they're on but they get streaky (unfortunately). Vanek seems to care more though and realizes when he isn't playing his best.

Stamkos is shooting his way up to the top of the list too after that not so great freshman year of his.

Ironically, I guess my expectations of him in the post season were so high, that him not getting multiple goals per game was a disappointment!

Well with OV, he sorta only scored in the games they won though.

It is hard to win in the playoffs without the team contributing enough.

Good call.

I think there is many more names that belong in there over Vanek as well.
But I also like Vanek's game as of late, he's turned it around and has started to be a "consistent" player on the score sheet, he just needs to pot more goals along with the assists.
