I didn't watch the game... only caught the highlights on NHL.com, but from those clips, it sounded like he did a great job calling the play by play.

Lots of energy. Well paced. I'm impressed.

I was pretty impressed with him tonight. Much better than last season

I think a lot of us were just happy it wasn't Mark Jeanneret.

I like Mark Jeanneret, but he isn't perfect.
Too quiet/monotone when calling games.
Sounds like a crack addled eight year old announcing goals.
Tries to say too much in his PBP at times.

From what I heard of the highlights, Kevin Sylvester was alright. I have three big knocks of him.

Not enough creativity on goal calls.
Too much energy on opponents' goals. I like the RJ deadpan... "and they score, or whatever, who cares."
Tends to fumble his words sometimes.

I thought Kevin was fantastic tonight, definitely better alternative to Mark Jeanneret (IMO). Well paced, generally exciting... enjoyable.

Agreed on Alex's assessment on the opponent goals, but otherwise I liked it. He doesn't do PBP at all except on these RJ vacations, so that he only fumbled a few times wasn't bad. And hell yes on the Happy Drew Year call for the hat trick goal...that's legit PBP work RJ would've been proud to call himself.

That's called not being biased.

No, not being biased is being fair on offering your opinion on penalty calls/non-calls. No one listening to WGR or watching MSG wants even a shred of excitement for opponents goals. And if opposing fans are watching, fuck em. Some of our fans have to deal with their shitty feeds.

If Sylvester walked over to the Bruins booth and knocked Jack Edwards right the fuck out, I would never want to hear RJ again. I wish I had watched the Bruins feed just hear Edwards bitch and moan. Anyway, I thought Sylvester did a fine job. After all these years hearing, "...takes the SHO-ot" or "---- CLEARED it in front" when it's nothing more than a desperate low percentage flail pass from the side boards, I enjoy hearing a different voice once in a while.

MJ sounds like Judge Doom when we score.

I was VERY impressed by KS's play by play last night. Much improved since the last time I heard him call it.

I honestly preferred Mark Jeanneret. KS just rubs me the wrong way doing PBP for some reason.

I'll say the same thing I said about MJ. Anyone that isn't RJ is going to be ripped by someone because he's not RJ. It's not fair, but that's what it is.

That being said, I didn't mind KS last night. Much better than previous kicks at the can. They both have performed admirably on this vacation IMO.

I was impressed with both Mark Jeanneret and Kevin Sylvester.

I don't know man. RJ pisses me off sometimes because I'll be fixing a sandwich or getting a beer and hear him belt out an energetic goal call just to find out that after I run into the living room that it was the other guys.

Mark Jeanneret was waaay too quiet. He knew his shit, though.

One of the things people hate about RJ is his blandness for the other team. I still want him to be louder for us, but if he can be a little loud for the opponent he'd be the perfect announcer.
