No idea who the guy is, but wasn't he involved with the bankrupt Penguins? I need to investigate...

Just saw this on facebook.

I believe black oversaw the Pens/Pirates regional sports network FSN, so this could mean that the Sabres are headed in the direction of having something similar to televise Sabres/Bandits games, but I really have no idea.

That's one of the few links I found and it's 3 years old.

msg owns the rights to the sabres, so unless the contract expires soon, its going to stay the same.

Depends on how much it's for. If it's not too expensive, Pegula could easily just buy out the MSG contract.

Doubt it would happen though.

Ted Black is his name.

Just because Mr. Black was working for FSN doesn't mean he's going to come in and try and dump MSG. They have more important things to worry about then messing with an existing TV deal.

His background will certainly help them when re-negotiation time comes up, but until then, it's probably not on anyone's radar.

The MSG deal really doesn't bother me. I'm 5.5 hours from Buffalo, and I get the Sabres games in HD instead of the Rangers or Islanders.

Perfect.

Can anyone comment on his business practices thus far? I know anyone's better than Quinn, but I'd really like someone REALLY FUCKING GREAT for the job.

The only part of the MSG deal that I REALLY don't like is the shared broadcast nonsense when the Sabres play NYR / NYI / NJD. I know that MSG does it to save money, but it really feels bush league. I wish the Sabres wouldn't let them get away with that.

I have Dish Netwrok and still don't get HD feeds from MSG. I thought that was gonna be fixed this season? I'll stop now before I get myself worked up into a Dish Network/MSG rant.

I got rid of Dish Network because I found out a week before the season started that MSG and DN hadn't reached an agreement.

if you watch some 05-06 highlights, MSG used the same graphic overlay as FSN which leads me to believe theres a big link between the two.

Not to go way off topic but compared to Direct tv who i switched from in the Fall and had NHL center ice with for three seasons, Dish is a joke. I have only seen a handful of Sabres games in HD and that was when they were away, not to mention that they nearly ALWAYS put on the visiting teams announcer when we play at home. Direct almost always seems to have HD and standard versions of the games plus they give those two feeds for both visiting and home announcing crews so you can always listen to your own guys. Dish has one feed....usually standard and no RJ to be found. To boot, when you call they have no clue what to tell you. They lied and said that if they aren't showing the HD feed then it's because the NHL didn't give it to them.....bullshit. Many people there have also said that there is no one who chooses which feeds go on....so it's fucking magic apparently. I tried to get my money back before the free promo where everyone could watch the first few games ended and they told me no. Okay....sorry....back to the topic... I really hate them if you can't tell.

I have no idea who Ted Black is. As long as the name Ken Sawyer never becomes a part of the Sabres organization, I don't care.

The only thing I don't like about MSG is how their owner refuses to give Verzion FiOS the rights to their HD channel!!!

i miss when the sabres had more or less their own channel with empire. if that were to happen again eventually that would be awesome.

Eventually is the key word, of course. If they want to spend five years focusing intently on improving what's on the ice and then creating a new regional sports network once the Sabres/MSG deal expires in 2016, I'm 110% ok with that.

Dammit...you're getting ME all worked up now. I'm SO FREAKING SICK of time warner cable's ridiculous center ice coverage. They have only TWO channels in the package which are capable of carrying HD, and half the nights NO GAMES are on either. They'll have SD versions of home and away often, but have ZERO HD content! WHY!? They just leave those channels blank half the time, WTF? and good luck trying to contact anyone who even knows what center ice is...I swear to god they pull homeless people off the street, put phones in their hands and tell them to answer calls, these people are the most ignorant, idiotic, pointless 'customer service' folks i've ever had the displeasure of talking to.

GOD DAMMIT!!!!!!!

the only things that rock about FSN detroit is tigers baseball and CCHA hockey. outside that, we have the red wings (cool) but they take a backseat to the pistons (WTF????) and no local college football or basketball. but we have the B10 network for those, so..

its only regional sometimes, most of the time its just whatevers on the national scale. though they do show EPL soccer alot on monday afternoons.
