Snipped from Paul Hamilton on WGR homepage: Montador who will be an unrestricted free agent also confirmed to me that the Sabres have not contacted his agent about a new deal. Now, why do you think that is? Hasn't Montador been one of our better defensemen this year?

I wouldn't read into it too much. I'm sure they haven't thought about extending many players since the sale process started moving in earnest. Given that he's 32, I'd expect them to dangle him as trade bait anyway. |

I don't know. I'd like to keep Monty, but at the same time, we have so much depth at defense that we could probably live without a guy that's exiting his prime. |

We have depth at D? Montador is one of our top defensemen. Are we really going to let ANOTHER one of our best defensemen walk out the door? They haven't even made a single CONTACT with his agent to see what Montador would sign for? Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. WAITING has fucked the Sabres in these negotiations every single time. When the fuck are they going to learn? |

When the fuck are they going to learn? Again, he's exiting his prime. Considering this is a contract year, it makes sense that he's playing at a high level, but other than this year, I don't remember any year where Monty was as solid as he is this year. At 32 years old, I'm OK if he walks. |

In my own opinion, he is a few years off from "exiting his prime". They need to approach him. |

If anything, let's at least try to get something for him before you guys freak out anymore. |

This time last year, I was calling for his head. Could be the case of him playing for a contract but he has been one of our most reliable defensemen this season, if not the most. I'd like to see them extend maybe a 2 year deal to him. If it's turned down, move him before it’s too late. |

Maybe the change in ownership has something to do with it. |

I'm sure he'll be offered a deal at the end, but he'll most likely explore his options |

At 32 years old, I'm OK if he walks. It's not about the fact that they think he's exciting his prime. Even if that was true, they haven't even TRIED to see what he'd consider. They haven't made a SINGLE contact with his agent. He could have been signed for a reasonable amount earlier this season for all we know. But we won't know, and neither will the Sabres, because no attempt was even made. That is absolutely ridiculous, and unacceptable. Darcy's done a great job hand picking these guys at the right time and allowing them to blossom, and then he just lets them sail free when they've reached that point. WHISKEY... TANGO... FOXTROT?!?!?!?! |

PuckSniperPensel wrote: That is absolutely ridiculous, and unacceptable. Is it? Do you know how other teams handle their upcoming free agents? Do you know when agents are normally contacted about these things? I don't think you do. Unless you can prove unequivocally that most other NHL teams have spoken to their high value upcoming free agents by now, you're just shitting on Darcy for no reason. |

IT ALL QUINN'S FAULT!!!! .... oh ..... wait.... I guess I can't use that one any more... huh... welllll Im guessing there is SOME type of plan... maybe they want to see if Monte has any trade value? Wait till after the deadline to open talks? Maybe the sale has held some stuff up... Bottom line no reason to get bent out of shape yet... lets of un-normal stuff happening this season to the Sabres... even if it may seem like business as usual... |

Do you, Tom? Would you like me to go find all of the contract extensions that have been signed this season, Tom, thanks to proactive GM's who investigate their players' salary demands early enough to see if they'll fit in the long term picture? Answer me this; How can you know whether or not a guy will fit into your long term plans without even checking to see what his salary demands are? No talks? Not a single email or phone call? How does that NOT bother you? |

We don't know how the business works on the inside. We don't know when it's customary for these talks to happen. We don't have a frame of reference to be able to say the lack of contact is 'ridiculous, and unacceptable'. You can't even KNOW that there was no contact. All you know is what Monty said. You may WISH that Regier had done something already, and that's you right to do so. However, arbitrarily deciding that Darcy is a fuckstick in this situation based on a tweet from Paul Hamilton is fucking absurd. |
