And we knew this going into the stretch run... Its why Boyes was brought in... And yes he has certainly contributed... but TV, Staff, Ennis, Pommers... they need to step it up... Ill give Timmy a half a pass because i think he has helped Boyes score... And I'll give hecht a half a pass because I think he is playing out of position (C) and I liked his game yesterday...

Add to this the weak ass power play... yes I know they got one against NY, but certainly didn't capitalize against the Cains... You need at lease one PP goal last night and you probably take the game...

Bottom line, Im not bitching or whining... while they all played ok... they ALL need to play much better than they did last night... they are still in decent position, but have to STOP giving up points that they should be taking....

Hecht has 5 points in his past 6 games, has been nothing less of brilliant reading the play as a center, and he has made a lot of key plays without the puck along the way. He's just not winning the draws, which I'll give him a pass on too.

Here's what I find most curious about some of the fine fans of the Sabres. Ryan Miller, despite his imperfections in last nights game has done this over the past 8 games including last night:

8 games
1.65 GAA
.938 S%
only 9 even strength goals allowed

And the new guy, Boyes, is on pace to score 82 goals a season as a Sabre.

But nobody wants to talk about the empty nets Vanek and Stafford blew in the first period, or the chances they all overlook so they can make a selfish highlight reel play.

I guess that when you get something new to complain about, it's hard to resist. Whereas this story with the Sabres top talent is old news.

You can't always bury the puck into a wide open net. Guys do miss, if you want to talk about the misses those guys had, how about the misses the Hurricanes had also.

Had we buried all of the open nets, we would have had 5 goals, had they buried all of their, they would have had probably 5 goals also.

Actually x-pens, Hecht was 6 for 15 last night on draws, that is a 40% winning percentage.

He wasn't winning the draws when we needed them, but our other centers were.

Alll I'm saying is that there is a big assed elephant in the room that nobody wants to look at and it's what is costing the team points. Not enough Vanek on the scoreheet. Stafford and on and on. Hecht, Goose. and Boyes can't carry a teams offense alone.

It sucks that Ennis and Gerbe are great players, but if you ask me their size limits them in not only physical prowess but their ability to shoot quick and hard. Look at Ennis, kid is fast as fuck, if he had half the shot some of these NHLer's have he'd score a lot more. :/

You need play-makers and puck-handlers too. His(Ennis) little dangle(that I'm sure LR was gonna bitch at him about) got us the 2nd goal. I, personally love when he's selfish with the puck, because he's good at it, and he tires out the other team. If he starts with the Max giveaways, that will change.

Also, Gerbe is nowhere near Ennis. Shouldn't even be in the same breath.

gerbe is a stopgap. and nothing more.

X-pens fan brings up a fair point, and so does the Miller thread. I don't think x-pens fan meant for this thread to say that fans shouldn't be criticizing Miller, he was just trying to make a point that Miller isn't the only reason why we lost. And I don't think the Miller thread that Sabresfan made was trying to say that it's all Miller's fault.

Honestly, I think our defense has been our weakest point as of late. Yeah, Miller made a mistake in the Carolina game, and the lack of scoring from our top guys is worrisome, but I think our defense was bad in Carolina and looked very shaky in New York.

Ennis hustles, but he's always along the boards never near the net. That's a part of the problem for all of the players I mentioned, they don't want to crash the net. Everybody wants to make east to west passes and make pretty plays but nobody wants to do the dirty work. Ennis needs to drive the net on a regular basis and so does everybody else.

As for Miller, I said he cost us that goal, that's all. As for the ice, I had no comments, and as for Boyes, I had little concerns. I do, however, support anyone who wants to do any of those things, and hope you can accept that too.

It wouldn't hurt if Morrisson knew how to pass a puck at an NHL level, his idea of a breakout pass is icing. I hope he gets bumped out of the lineup when Leopold returns because Butler and Sekera pass and defend better than he does.
