Would you offer him a one-year extension? Is he worthy of our NHL roster spot?
I personally would re-sign him. Ethan Moreau got $600,000 so he might be something around this. If we are able to get rid of "Atta Boyes" and move Morrison or Kotalik somehow than there will be enough cap space for him. Since Connolly signed with the Leafs, we would be shorter one more decent penalty killer (in case of letting him go).

Plus he did what others didn't, he scored against Rinne.
(a lil' bit of Image included)

So?

I love Grier, but after his performance last season, I don't think he's got enough left in the tank for another year.

He didn't completely shut the door, he just said that it was difficult due to the circumstances.

I'd love to give him another year but all in all the guy is pretty much done; and if he does decide to hang them up Darcy should hire him as a special teams coach... Just my 2 cents...

I'd love to see him return. He is(was) my favorite Sabre(as far as more recent Sabres go) and I'd love to see him come back and I'd love to see him retire AS a Sabre. Not a free agent :(

How about signing him to be the new coach or assistant coach of the Junior Sabres, under General Manager Mike Peca?

He seemed like he lost a couple steps. But I'm sure we all can agree that we would love Grier back.

I think we all want Grier back in some capacity, but I also think the majority of us know that having him back as a player would likely not be the best avenue. Loads of respect for the guy, and words cannot express how much I appreciate the fact that he wanted to retire as a Sabre.

I was thinking about this this morning on the drive to work. If he wants to keep playing, it shouldn't be in the NHL. He was a step behind last year; how many breakaway chances would he have had if his legs didn't look like they were made of concrete?

Grier is gone.

Is there any room on the team for J.P. Dumont? Nashville bought out his contract and he is still out there.

jp's days are behind him. the ferocity he played with in the offensive zone took a toll on his body, which is why his last two years haven't been great. plus, we don't need any more wings.

I'm too sentimental to be a GM. You have to be more like Belichick and the Patriots. Those guys are ruthlessly efficient at recognizing when a guy has crested past the peak of his career and letting him go.
