Quote:
Ruff has been joking with the media this month about constant questions regarding his team's vacant captaincy. It had been a few days since we talked about it so I asked him again Wednesday night and we (finally) got some news -- the Sabres will put the C on someone's jersey overseas.

Said Ruff: "You don't have an opportunity very often to name a captain in Europe."

I was wondering if the Sabres might do it Wednesday night in front of the fans. Fair enough. We have one answer. Ruff wouldn't say if he's naming a permanent captain or a monthly one.

We might finally have an answer. I'm pretty interested in seeing who it will be, not that it is that much important. :)

I'm guessing they name Vanek captain in Europe. They'll be in Germany, not too far from Austria. A nice little bonus for Van if they give him the C with some family and homeland friends in attendance.

No, they give it to Leino in Finland...lol. But yeah, I hadn't thought of that Hammy...you might be right. Pominville is on the PK more and I figure Ruff wants a C that plays in all situations. Doesn't really matter though. Vanek, Pominville, Gaustad, Roy, or Leopold will wear letters.

Like most are saying, I think it's Vanek, especially if they name the captain in Europe. They give the C to V in the E, G.

Gaustad.

Vanek should have it I think. Watch the interviews with him so far on Sabres.com, he looks completely different than before, a lot more confident. He seems like a guy on mission ready to carry this team on his back.

I'm also rooting for Gerbe to get a letter, that'd be weird/awesome. :D

I agree. The year they did that was a complete loss of a season.

Anyways, I have a funny feeling that regehr gets the C

Oh God, please no. The last time we gave the C to a new guy, it was disastrous. Not saying it would be again, but I'm not a fan giving the C to someone new on this team.

I'd say the front runners are Pommer, Roy and Van. As what has been pointed out in the past when Pommer wears the "C", I find the team plays a lot better. I'm seeing a major difference in Vanek from last year to this year in terms of his on and off ice actions; he just seems to carry himself with a more professional demeanor. As for Roy, I’m not 100% sold on him wearing it just yet so I'm good with one of the other two wearing it. I have to admit though, my homer is leaning more towards Vanek just because...

Disastrous? Overstatement much?

Rivet was fine as the captain. It just ended up not working out because his body couldn't keep up anymore.
