So far statistically looks like a mistake and honestly I hope Leino starts going at some point this season but I honestly think it was a bust.

no but really common hasn't Connolly been better than Leino so far? All Leino does is dipsy doodles around a couple of players and shoots wide or over the net... Wait now that I've said that he's actually a lot like Connolly minus injuries of course so nvm always better to have a healthy NHL capable body than not right?

Leino hands downbecause Connolly is basically made of glass. I don't care if he has more points, he is playing on a line with Kessel who is leading the league in scoring right now.

I think we're just waiting for Leino to get going. He's not playing with Claude Giroux and Daniel Briere anymore. He's playing with average linemates. He's also playing a position he's not used to. Shame on management for thinking he could switch back to his "natural position" when clearly he was switched to wing because he wasn't all that great at center.
Stick him on a wing on one of the top two lines, and Leino will get going again, I think. Hell, try Pommer at center. He seems to want to make the switch with all the faceoffs he's taking now. Can you imagine a Vanek-Pominville-Leino line? I think that would be sick if Leino meshed with them well.

I totally agree with this. But here is the worse part. If he can't get going and doesn't look like he fits into this squad good luck in trying to trade him because not many teams are going to touch that 4.6 million he's making a season. I understand that with the new owner he wanted to build this team into a contender but unfortunately the only guy worth getting thru free agency over the summer was Richards. Trades like the Regher move should have happened instead of paying a player way much more than they are worth. This team needs to keep rebuilding and not trade away picks for guys that can't help the cause. Boyes seemed good at the deadline and seems okay this year but I just don't see him being here much longer after this season.

Agree and kinda disagree.... A lot of teams would touch that contract if there was "incentive." Say give them a nice young prospect/player (Ennis would be great trade bait, Sabres need to get bigger anyway) or a 1st rounder + Leino then it's all systems go; obviously we'd get a good package in return but not as good as it would be if it weren't a salary dumping move. A move that has to happen IMO... Boyes' salary gone and Eherhoff's salary going down 2 mill won't help the fact that Myers will be making 12 million next year....

Cap hit is all that matters, salary has nothing to do with anything here. A player could make 100 million the first year of a contract if they wanted to do so. It has no effect on cap hits on a team.
A cap hit is the AVERAGE salary over the lifetime of the contract. You get a guy making 12 million, 10 million, 3 million, 2 million, 2 million, 1 million, 1 million, and 1 million for his contract, it's still a cap hit of 4 million a year, regardless how you dice it. Salary is a complete moot point.

I wouldn't say salary is a completely moot point. Salary only comes into play if a team wants to trade a player. Sure, a $4 million cap hit might be nice, but depending on the salary a certain player is making in a certain year could deter teams who are strapped for cash. Take Claude Giroux, for example. Say he doesn't live up to his new contract that has a cap hit of $3.75M. Sure, the Flyers could try to trade him somewhere for a change of pace, but teams like the Islanders, Avalanche, Predators, Panthers, etc. aren't likely to take on his contract. Why? It's back-loaded, and in his contract year, Giroux will be making $5.00M. Of course, Giroux is amazing so why in God's name would they ever trade him?
Now, we look at a player like Leino, who's cap hit is $4.00M. His contract is front-loaded. He's virtually untradeable in the first few years of his contract because he makes $6.00M in the first two years. However, if the Sabres wanted to get rid of him towards the end of his contract, that's slightly more manageable because at the end, he's only making $3.50M. If he keeps playing like he is, I doubt the Sabres could even trade him when he's making that kind of money either, but here's to hoping he does more things like this:

the connolly hate has gone way too far. connolly played with the sabres for 10 years and always came back after injuries and produced and worked hard. when his offensive skills diminished, he worked and became a defensive player with offensive skills. connolly always got dogged for no reason, it just seems like buffalo fans need a scapegoat and after max left, it became TC. I hope TC plays well for toronto. he deserves better from buffalo fans.
that said, leino is fine. hes not scoring, but other aspects of his game are helping the sabres. at this point, id rather have leino. though, in hindsight, id like both players.
