Now build off of it. Sometimes, a game against a rival like that is just what you need to come out of a funk like the one they're in.

Don't let it go to waste.

Tonight's game, to me, totally felt like a playoff game! The 1st and 2nd were full of energy, the 3rd could have used some extra work but hey, we got 2 huge points tonight! Just speaks to the old saying that you need to play a full 60 min. Tomorrow won't be a walk in the park. The pens will want to rebound from their showing against the sens tonight. In the words of McCormick, chip, skate, bang! Get to the ugly places and win the battles. Do that, and you win a hockey game.

i think it felt more intense than any of the playoff games ive been to in recent years. honestly, it kind of makes me excited for the new conference set up. rivalry's are going to become even more intense between teams and fans.

Two things I noticed:

1. Vanek made a bad play on that first Lupul goal. He responded by going out, setting up the tying goal and going on to score two more. Fucking love that.

2. On the Phaneuf goal, Weber failed to clear the cease for Ryan, and the screen allowed Toronto to score a goal. He played like a man possessed after that, especially the hit he made on Kessel that resulted in one of Vanek's breakaway goals.

Those are plays of determination. I don't understand why this team has such a fragile psyche. They're capable of playing really good hockey, but they get dragged down and up tight way too easily, and it seems they too often forget how easy it is to come out of that. All you have to do is skate hard like they did last night.

As a side note, I'd also like to mention that the play Weber made on Kessel is EXACTLY why you want a blue line with more big strong defenseman than offensive skating defensemen.

A lot of people are saying that, but that's not true. If you watch closely, you'll see Weber has his hands together, so it was his fists that shoved Kessel off the puck and not his stick.

That's a clean play.

And we're usually on the receiving end of those 'legal' hits in the o-zone, losing the puck and giving up the breakaway. About damned time we had someone not afraid to play that physically in our zone.

After that hit but before Vanek even scored, I wanted to post a new topic making this exact point.
