Steve Yzerman understands the game and his team. He understands that his Lightning team is not a cup contender, and even though they're now closing in on 8th place, he's still making the moves to build a foundation for success for years to come. Being proactive and aggressive - that's what I want here from my GM. Like the first guy to show up at the garage sale with more to choose from than the guy who shows up at 4 pm. |

Yeah well Darcy has never been and will never be aggressive no matter how much money he has to throw around. I personally think they need to invest more into the farm (prospects and coaching) than spending big money on big name players. It's almost like fitting a round peg in a square hole sometimes when it comes to using free agency. Once in a while you get a square peg that fits into the hole but it's rare. |

Weren't we all just bitching about how Darcy's previous excuses were building from within? The draft is where we build from within, and we have plenty good prospects. We're fine in that department. |

Tampa traded Downie to Colorado for Kyle Quincy, who he then traded to Detroit for a first rounder and an AHL player. He's building from within, just trading assets now for assets later. |

I'm Sorry but I just don't ever see a Cup in Buffalo with Darcy running the show. You need to be aggressive and go after players that will fit you system and from what I have seen in the past few seasons he has no clue on who fits and who should stay and go. Its so easy to see that there are major issue's with this current core and these last two games against the Penguins and Islanders shouldn't damper their thinking about rebuilding for the future. Get rid of the garbage( Roy, Stafford, Boyes, Grag's and even Gaustad if he isn't willing to re-sign for less money.) This team isn't going anywhere even if they somehow make it in. The goal is to win multiple Stanley Cups isn't it. They aren't going to do it with this soft core of players. At least Stevie Y gets it he has loaded up with enough picks in the first two rounds to help your franchise long term and they still continue to win. |

I don't know what I'd call throwing $40 mill towards Ehrhoff and $27 mill to Leino other tham purdy darn aggressive. - Right now the way the Sabres play is shit the first 3 quarters of the season with a few ups and then go on a tare for the last part of the season which ends up in a playoff birth and a first round exit or they just barely make it. This totally fucks up our draft position. With Roy playing well I wouldn't be surprised to see Darcy stand pat and seeing the exact same team on the ice next year. Minus of course Boyes. |

Unfortunately, Darcy's not in a situation where he can sell off his assets and build for the future. This present season was supposed to be the year the Sabres finally broke the mold, and they utterly failed. Rebuilding now is not seen as a failure by the fans, but as a failure by management. So, I can see why he's not selling. At the same time, Pegula shouldn't be giving Darcy his sweet old time to prove that he was right. Darcy should be out the door because the ship should have been righted ages ago, before Pegula's time with the team. |

I said in another thread, any rebuild has to be ordered by the president and/or owner. Darcy would be dumb to go into rebuild mode because he would most likely lose his job and rebuild for the next GM. |
