Dude's a good studio host, but that's where it ends. The Vancouver game was one of the few I didn't get to watch, but heard it via WGR stream, and it was unbelievably choppy and brutal trying to follow the play. And when someone scores, it's dull as hell. I hope when RJ fully retires, they look long and hard for a bonafide play-by-play guy, 'cause Sylvester aint' that guy. I'd be curious to see Brian Duff get the call one game.

He has been horrible since they started to use him. Although he is better than RJ's son

I can't stand to listen to him call games. Him and Danny are terrible. They seem to ramble and cut each other off the whole game. It's more like to buds calling the game from their couch. Overall they're crap.

He's good until his voice goes up.

Try listening to the guys in say Dallas if you wanna hear some unprofessional calls.

First of all, as someone else mentioned, we've been completely spoiled by RJ for years. That being said Sly is ok at best, Danny Gare is terrible because he doesn't know when to stop talking so Sly can get back to announcing the game...the colour analyst is there to support the play-by-play guy, not step on his toes. Plus, if I have to hear Gare call someone "partner" one more time, I'm going to lose my mind.

I don't currently live in Buffalo, so this may be a dumb question...has it been announced that RJ will for sure retire after this year? Obviously he has reduced the number of games he's done but this year seems extreme to the point where I think he even missed a game in Toronto.

he's holding on for a cup. he'd have retired in 06 if we won. he is barely a year by year situation right now. i wouldn't be surprised if he only did games in the northeast next year.

RJ's son sucks at every level of PBP; he is just god awful.

As far as a league standard; Kevin is okay.

The West Coast and Mountain Region especially suffer when it comes to commentators for hockey. I think it's Anaheim or Colorado's announcer who uses some of Mike Emerick's catch phrases such as "activates" and "The Cage." Now if Mike Emerick is a tool for using asinine terms like that; what does that make you?

I know Mike Emerick is a "broadcasting icon", and I respect his passion for hockey; but he's a geek who never really played the game, and has a less than acceptable understanding of the games culture. He's a fucking prancer.

Former Sabre Randy Moller in Florida is a good one who TPeg would be wise to pursue...

We have definitely been spoiled by RJ. Nobody is going to be him or be like him and so everyone after him will be in his shadow. With that said, I think Sylvester has had his ok games and his not so ok games. He has definitely improved since he started but something is just off there. I think maybe switch around Danny Gare and Brian Duff and give him a shot in the booth, maybe even a chance at the Play by Play.

Gare does see to throw Kevin off when he just rambles.

Or what about those fucking assclowns in Boston? I'd honestly rather hear cats having sex for 3 hours than listen to those mouth breathing troglodytes.

I think Gare brings Sylvester down a lot. Fire Gare and put Duff in the lineup. Duff is outstanding.

I just want a ply-by-play guy who CALLS THE PLAY!!!
I listen on the radio, so I want someone who can paint a picture with words. There is a world of difference between radio calls & TV announcing.
I don't think I'm asking for too much.

Everyone is a homer for their team. I think the Boston guys are fair in their analysis of how their team is playing vs. their opponents, even if they root for Boston.

This is such a confusing and perplexing thing you've said, I dont think i'll ever be equipped to answer it.

It might as well have been said in Kling-on.
