Anyone go? Any word on players and what they were showing out on the ice. From what I have gathered Grigs straight dominated and "took the air out of the building" during one on ones. Armia apparently looked like he is bringing everything we wanted to get out him and then some. Any other information would be greatly appreciated. |

I'm interested too. I haven't really seen any good writeups of how it all went. |

Those were just some feeble attempts to be as drunk as drunk can possibly get. I mean seriously sparks were flying behind him...no tire |

I went on Monday but didn't have a chance to post anything yesterday. Below are my observations about the players that I noticed during the camp. Foligno--looked superior to everyone else. He clearly has been working on his hands Hodgson--seemed to have trouble finishing but skated smooth and seemed to have good vision. Adam--nothing special but nothing bad either Tropp--looked much more offensive minded than during the past season McNabb--very physical much like his play while with the Sabres last year Grigorenko-looked every bit as advertised. Great wrist shot and very slick moves. He will make the team this year. Girgensons--looked very good however a bit raw so he's probably looking at a year or 2 before being able to make the club Armia--very good skater with some nice finishing skills. Still a year away but very promising. Catenacci--I was really excited to see him but was disappointed to see that he appeared timid. He never did anything to stand out. Knapp--kid is huge and very agile. Made some very nice point blank saves. Ullmark--missed a couple of simple saves but also made some "10 bell saves" as RJ said...one being on Teppo Numminem. If he straightens out his basics, he could be special. |

McNabb was easily one of my favorite up and coming players last year. The guy could lay a boom that would get everyone on the ice to slow down a bit to see if the guy was going to move afterwords. I have said it once and I will say it again. He drops Soupy style Umburger hits on the reg. Teams will be scared to cross our blueline if we have a beast ready to unload at will. The Grigs news is fantastic because having him come up now opens up trade options for this club. I think a lack of news on the homefront in regards to willingness to trade was hampered mainly by the fact we had not seen him and worked him out against NHL ready players for ourselves. Armia-It is good he needs another year because he needs to do his one year enlistment. I have no questions abouts Coho's abilities. Probably just rust. He will be ready. Also, it's good we are hitting the goalies hard because you never know how long we will have Ryan for. Its not like he is a spring chicken and he has taken a beating in the past. |

Agreed he's getting up there in age and shouldn't be playing as many games as he has in the past no more. He will be gone once he hits the UFA market. He's got 2 years left on his contract I wouldn't mind sending him out west to Anaheim for Hiller/Ryan, or Getzlaf or Perry package after this upcoming season. |

Seemed to be the natural leader of the group. Manbearpig. Phil Varone- showed the most hustle, and was the best defensively. Great back-checking. Wouldn't be surprised if he's this years Szechura. Girgs- GOTY nominee already. Played well, but doesn't have the size to be a D. Brown clone yet. He's further along than anticipated offensively. Needs work defensively. Grigs- Seemed tired, but did use his body to shield the puck, had good vision, and silky hands on a shootout goal. He's as advertised, but was pretty horrible defensively. A LOT of work to do there if he's to play big club this year. Armia- Not afraid to stand in front of the net. Dangled a bit too. Overall, he looked great offensively. Was pretty horrid defensively. F. Roy- speedy little dangler who wasn't afraid to go hard to the net. A possible D. Roy replacement. You'll like him J. Wise- a 3 goal night, but I'd assume it was uncharacteristic. B. McNabb- Inner ear infection? Fell down 3 times including a dandy with the skate guards on as the first guy one the ice. He got better as the night went on. Pysyk- Didn't stand out too much, but he's a stout guy who moved the puck well. He seemed to be working on playing the man. Did rush the puck into the zone once. Adam- unspectacular, but played well. I guess I expected him to shine, but he was only above average. Hodgson- Oh baby. Cody showed some good speed. Absolutely undressed and blew by Mcnabb! Can't recall him losing even one faceoff, either. Tropper- Average to above average, but didn't stand out. Catenacci- Had a goal and was overall pretty good. Better than most defensively. Sundher- Played pretty well. Stood out at times. Nelson, Flynn, Navin and Leduc all showed some stuff at times. Boychuck and Crawford are both big boys. J. Kea has good height, but is scrawny and looks like he's 12 years old(but wasn't afraid to try and hit). If he's Goose's replacement, he's years away. |
