The question is what it is. Do we keep Mair in the press box until needed, or, does the team continue to build for the future and cut him loose to look for greener pastures? I can't see Mair coming in without an injury occuring, the teams chemistry is very good right now.

Portland is probably not an option. He'd get snagged off waivers.

Trade bait if you can get it, otherwise stay upstairs until someone gets hurt, or needs a mental health day.

Mair can start if someone has a minor injury. If a bottom six forward is put on IR, start Mair. If a top six forward is put on IR, they can bring up Gerbe to fill the roster spot anyway, and Mair can still sit.

Yeah I agree with Squanto. My first instinct was to trade him, but I think it's nice and necessary to have a proven NHLer who can put up a few points as a depth player.

I think Mair is a little more important now, since the team is carrying only 13 forwards (normally 14). They could afford to trade Paille because of the depth in Portland, but the Myers situation was going to make them carry 8 d-men instead of the normal 7. Paetsch being able to play forward makes this an easier set up, but Mair is the only true extra forward. In a big game, I would still feel better with Mair out there than Gerbe, if it came down to it.

I feel bad for Mair. I like him, he just doesn't fit in right now. He's gotta sit until there's an injury, or until someone trades for him.

I would normally agree with keeping him, but this team has tried to keep the status quo for far too long and it has proven costly (the last 2 seasons come to mind). Although they have added Grier (and this was a smart move) I believe it has been the addition of new, younger, hungier blood (Kennedy & Myers) that has really propelled this team to early success.
I would not dish off Mair just for the sake of doing so, but I would look very seriously at the talent in Portland, I personally feel comfortable enough with the young guys salivating to come up that if Mair were to dissappear it would'nt even phase me. I strongly believe there are guys ready and willing to step in from the farm team and contribute right away.
But it is nice to also have Mair's experience sitting there as well.

These are the Sabres. Someone is bound to get hurt. Then Mair can step in and hurt someone.

for such a cheap price tag, and for such a well liked vetran leader in the locker room, I say keep him around until injury happens. Its nice having options for injuries this year... and it also helps everyone stay on their A-game because they have some proven workers nipping at their heels for a chance to play

It is always good to have an extra forward around, I say play him if you are playing is tough team.

I love Mair, but the way Ellis is playing...well just not gonna happen. I would like to see Mairsey in tonights game though.
