First and foremost, I recognize that this isn't the most important thing in the world, and is at best tenuously related to hockey. That said, I like the goal of creating a fun and unique atmosphere within the FNC, and a goal song definitely contributes to that. I love celebrating to the Bills shout song (even if the song is old and lame. It's about the tradition and the camaraderie, not the music itself) and likewise would love celebrating to a good goal song. Everyone knows 'woo!' in Boston, 'heyheyhey' in Madison Square Garden, and Chelsea Dagger in the United Center. What will people attribute to the FNC? Lonely Boy is okay and somewhat catchy, but I think we can do better. What's important, catchiness, simplicity, recognizability, being unique? As the Bills shout song is old and lame, I propose we go the same route with Celebrate by Three Dog Night. Cory Wells, one of the lead vocalists is a Buffalo native, and the song hails from the time of the French Connection. Start at 1:30. |

Alex... I'm sorry, but this is too lame. The Bills Shout song has some zip in it. This is just too slow, and it doesn't hit me as a goal scoring song. I need a more upbeat song than this. |

Alex, I think this song is a terrible choice. |

I think they should use a song which is easy to sing along, even with 8 beers. Not that I like the song, but I've heard it as a goal song and it always gets the crowd going. |

No offense Alex, but if they did that I'd get up and leave. |

I just want something where it doesn't look like a Sabres employee hung a Top 40s rock list on a wall and threw a dart at it. |

I don't have a good suggestion, but you're spot on regarding the Bills Shout song. It's cheesy and outdated but it's also immediately identifiable and it's ours. Often while roaming the halls between periods or after a game in opposing arenas you'll hear a group of Sabres fans singing the shout song...it's like a game of marco polo to find out who else in the immediate area is from Buffalo. |

I agree that "lonely boy" is kind of a shitty song, in general, and then more shitty when you add "we just scored a goal" in context. I can't think of a better option; maybe the crowd cheer from Zombie Nation? |

The way I see it, these are the needs: Fun, catchy, most likely fast paced Immediately identifiable either due to popularity or clearness (aka no lag time for the first ten games while the crowd figures out what the hell is playing) Unique, something you wouldn't hear elsewhere Able to be associated with Buffalo |

Black Keys are about as good as it gets if you want to appeal to a wide variety. They're actually a pretty damn good band, downright fabulous considering how popular they are. |

How about a bit of Rush? They're somewhat local (Hamilton / St. Catherines) and would appeal to both US and Canadian fans. The difficult part would be isolating an appropriate clip of a song but a few come to mind. Stuuuuuuu wrote: Black Keys are about as good as it gets if you want to appeal to a wide variety. I've heard of them but never listened to them so their reach isn't that far. Do I need to turn on a pop music station or MTV to hear them? Because that's a deal breaker. |

The Black Keys are cool, and you won't hear them on pop stations. Here is one of their older songs. |

uh...is that the whole band? I get that the Doors didn't have a bass but Ray Manzarek made up for it. I've listened to a couple of their songs and it sounds like generic guitar rock with a nod to the blues..egh I guess I think a goal song should be bombastic and catchy enough to make you want to get out of your seat. I'm not hearing that from what I've sampled from these guys. |

Guitar rock with a nod to the blues is a fair assessment of the Black Keys. I love those guys, but I don't really get 'goal song' out of any of their songs either. I wouldn't mind hearing Roger Daltrey's 'yeahhhhhhhhh' from Won't Get Fooled Again after goals, but it only lasts about 5 seconds. |
