This isn't the first season Vanek's torn it up early and led the league. Seems he usually sustains some nagging injuries that slow him down. Can he remain healthy and remain among the top in the league? "Bitches love five-point nights." - Thomas Vanek Ham |

15 points for Vanek, two 5 point nights, leading the league in points right now. Out top line has a combined 33 points total. Pommers with 12 and Hodgson with 6 points. I can't wait until CoHo really fits in with that line and starts producing numbers like those other two. 11 points tonight by those three. |

I haven't seen a sabres line completely dominate like Vanek, Hodson and Pommers did last night in a very long time. They owned the Garden. |

I think Hammie is right about Vanek and injuries. I remember back a few years ago when we played the Bruins in the first round, Vanek had just come back from being out for 2-3 weeks, and looked unstoppable in that series until he sprained the ankle in game 2. When fully healthy, he is an absolute beast. Problem is that he takes big-time punishment playing in front of the net, so practically impossible to stay injury-free. But I've also noticed in the past, that he has left an awful lot of points on the table, not from lack of chances, but by trying to get too cute or fancy with the puck, often passing up a great shot to try to make the picture-perfect feed, or stick handling way too deep and running out of real estate. Seems that his head is really on right this year, with great decisions about shooting and passing. |

Vanek's already injured, missed a game, and STILL leads the league in points(and NONE of his assists weren't awesome). Sometimes when he has to lean over during draws, you can see the pain in his face from his back strain. This guy is a warrior beast. Unfortunately, I see this back thing catching up with him, because of the schedule, and because he doesn't know the definition of tone it down a bit. |
