Because if he didn't, 'fans' would call him a pussy.

Going along with Tom's above post, I feel like the guy can never win.

He doesn't backcheck, he plays hurt when he should't, he's a pussy if he doesn't play. He's not scoring like a super star every night, therefore he sucks.

WTF...I'm getting a bit sick of the thought that "an 80% Vanek is better than a 100% ______". That is bullshit. An 80% vanek is freaking useless. I'd rather see him sit out the rest of the season, instead of letting buttfuglian just take the puck away from him and walk in to set up a goal. Pathetic.

I think he's a valuable player and i've always liked him, i'd just prefer that he not play in this condition/situation. For 1) because he's just not that effective like this and 2) He's taking a roster spot on a team who has a few young guys they'd like to get some ice-time, and we really have no post-season hopes, so, really just not seeing the sense in keeping the guy out there.

He's playing hurt because he's a professional athlete. That's what they do. If they can play, then they'll play. Even if it's not at 100%.
