I highly doubt that. I think Ryan is past the point in his career where playing against certain opponents would make him especially nervous or lose focus. I'm sure it's "just another game" to him, and no offense to Marty, I don't think he'd be the goalie that would make Ryan nervous to play against.

I remember Ryan said that one of his first NHL starts they were playing against the Devils, and he said things were going pretty good until the third period when it donned on him that he was playing against Martin Brodeur and then they lost the game. That's more understandable...a rookie goaltender playing in one of his first NHL games against one of the greatest goalies in the world.

But now that Ryan has established himself as being one of the top goaltenders in the league with several NHL seasons under his belt, I don't think a career back up goaltender (whether he's a former teammate or not) like Biron is going to throw him off his game.

i doubt playing marty made ryno nervous. but as for last night, i just dont believe in playing a goalie both games in a back to back unless its a must must win. miller may have been fine, i just dont think you do that.

I think it depends on the situation. I can see why Lindy played Miller. He's really been on a roll and I don't think there's many goalies right now playing better than Ryan right now. And with two key players being out with the flu (and who knows how many players were playing sick), I'm sure Lindy wanted his number 1 goalie in. You can't say how different the game would have turned out if Lalime started, but if Ryan couldn't spark the team then I doubt starting Lalime would have. But with the Olympics this year and when the standings get tight toward the end of the season, I suppose it's wise to give Ryan a rest whenever you can before things really start to get intense in the upcoming months.

it just shouldnt happen. not this early in the season. i understand the hot hand, but miller should have never played. as for being fired up, the guy in net should never determine whether a team is ready to play or not.

Whatever I'm not in the mood to argue with you over something so insignifcant. I'm just trying to give another point of view. Hindsight is 20/20. If we were to win that game 2-1, people would be saying it was a good idea to go with the hot goalie. If Lalime would have initially started and we would have lost, people would have been saying that Lindy should have gone with Miller since he has been on a roll. Maybe it would have been a better idea to have started Lalime, but I'm just saying I can understand why Lindy decided not to.

Anyways, back to Marty...if we had to have gotten shutout by any goalie, at least it was Marty. Can't help but be happy for a guy like him...

T'was a mistake starting Miller against the Islanders on the backend of consecutive games, particularly after a busy night against the big rival when several of the players were hit by the flu. This was a made-to-order Lalime game if there ever was one. The guys were just out of gas mentally and physically, and Lindy fucked up by not providing Ryan a much deserved and needed rest.

As we've seen year after year, Ruff's biggest weakness as a coach is managing the goalie rotation.

He knows it, too. He admitted that after that one season a year or two back, when he played Miller 15-20 games in a row without resting him, leading to some *interesting* save percentages after he'd played like twelve in a row.
