What is up with the +/- from tonight? We outscore the Islanders 3-0 and yet as a team we are only +5. Vanek has a goal and assist and has an Even +/-? How exactly does that work |

+/- only applies to even strength goals. Buffalo had one (Gaustad) and two PP goals. |

What 1980 said. There are exceptions - I believe that a shorthanded goal results in a - for every player on the ice for the PP team and a + for the shorthanded team's players on the ice. |

Powerplay goals do not give a + to players on the ice or a - for the goal scored against. Even strength goals give +'s and -'s depending on who scored and what not. Shorthanded goals will give Plus and Minus to the respective players. Empty Net goals also Give A plus or a Minus. |

Plus/minus is a very misseading stat sometimes, it usually doesn't say much if a team is an offensive power house. |

The reason many of our players are pluses right now is because we've been so good on 5-on-5 play, we have been outscoring opponents even strength more often than not this year. |

Always good at even strength... Without a power play, though, they will get nowhere in the postseason. |
