I don't want to wade through the GDT to see if this got answered... WHAT was RJ's problem tonight?? Is he sick? Is he pissed at someone? I have never heard him sound so bad before. Heavens, I hope he gets over it before we play again! Listening to him was torturous at best. Very disappointing. |

Yeah, I noticed he didn't have his usual energy. Called Roy's goal like it was by the opposing team. |

We'll have to see how he is on Wednesday to see if it's flu or something |

I brought this up in the Postmortem thread. He sounded very down and mopey after the Bruins 2nd goal and just mailed in the rest of the broadcast. Not sure if he was ill or just negged out by the shitty effort the Sabres put forward for the 2nd straight night. |

You're right, I just watched the beginning of the game and RJ was his normal self up until that point. Now I'm thinking he's getting tired of calling mediocre games |

Ive noticed this.. Never heard him sound so down.. But everybody has those days, and Im surprised he doesn't have more of them.. Maybe someone in his family died.. He's not going to tell us something like that, so it could be anything.. |

He's like us. He thought the team was different, and he's having doubts, and he called the game like he thought it was over. It was boring, and depressing. |

For years, RJ has shown enthusiasm in his play calling even when the team on the ice has been terrible. I'd bet money that he's just under the weather. |

It just seemed weird that it happened during the middle of the game. Hopefully he'll be in better spirits come Wednesday. |

I think the game was a wake up call for a lot of people. I bet RJ was really hoping that this season the Sabres could really elevate their game and prove they're a team worthy of a deep playoff run, considering he doesn't have very many seasons left before retirement. While it's a little too early to count them out, of course... I wouldn't be surprised if a solid beat down and play very reminiscent of the last few seasons, two games in a row, wasn't getting him down a little bit. That's my take on it anyways. |

RJ is too proffessional and announced for too many crappy Sabres teams to be "bummed" about how they are playing. Either he got sick, or there is some kind of personal/family dilemma |

He wasn't this close to retirement with those crappy Sabres teams though. All professionalism and class aside, I'd imagine it's the guys dream to call for a Stanley Cup victory at least once in his career and this particular team dropped hard the last couple of games. It's enough to bring anyone as emotionally invested in the team as RJ down a little bit. He's only human afterall, and the Sabres have been a major part of his life for the past 30+ years or so. |

I think that the assumption that RJ was 'bummed' due to the team's poor play is downright moronic, and frankly insulting to the man. It's disgusting that this 'theory' is even being put forth. |

I think he started calling the game more enthusiastically than he was around the time Roy scored the first goal and the Sabres were down 3 in the second. Just saying. |
