Right before they scored their first goal, Buffalo had a clearing attempt that was thwarted when Visnovsky prevented the puck from leaving the zone by stopping it with his hand.

The puck went high in the air, and the next touch was made by his D partner.

Shouldn't that be a glove pass?

EDIT: For the record, I think the officiating was poor last night.

I think the rules on hand passing is you an physically pass the puck to the guy with your hand, but if you were to stop a clearing attempt by sticking your arm up without any apparent movement to give the other guy the puck it is legal.

I'm not too sure on it, but it goes along the lines of making the motion or not making it.

As I said in the GDT, the call on Rivet was horseshit. The Bruins player was holding onto Rivet's stick like it was the last fucking raft on the Titanic.

I would be more upset with the ref getting in the way of clearance than nearly resulted in Edmonton's GTG.

A player shall be permitted to stop or "bat" a puck in the air with his open hand, or push it along the ice with his hand, and the play shall not be stopped unless, in the opinion of the Referee, he has directed the puck to a teammate in any zone other than the defending zone, in which case the play shall be stopped and the puck faced-off at the spot where the offense occurred, except when the offense occurs in the attacking zone in which case the ensuing face-off shall be conducted outside the defending Team's blue line in the neutral zone.

Play will not be stopped for any hand pass by players in their own defending zone. A hand pass in the defending zone is considered to have occurred when both the player making the pass and the player receiving the pass have both of their skates inside their defending zone.

Yeah, basically hand passes are allowed in your defensive zone.

I've thought for years that they should take that rule away, and make a hand pass in your defensive zone a penalty shot. I know that makes it harder on the defense, but would create more offense and excitement in the game. :)

That really pissed me off. It's like the refs were out to get us in every shape and form last night. You'd think we were playing the Canadians in Montreal by the way this game was officiated.

I like O'Sullivan too, but don't score a cheapie on us like that.
