So, since he was given a 5 minute major for boarding and also a game misconduct, what are we thinking??? I'm going with the usual 3 games.

MacArthur thought Reddix was going to go shoulder to shoulder with him in the battle for the puck.

Instead, Reddox turned his back to MacArthur, and it was too late.

I don't understand why these players put themselves in those positions. He knew physical contact was coming, and he put himself in a bad spot.

I agree with you PSP that Mac didn't intentionally try to board him and Reddix did put himself in a bad spot but I don't think the league will take that into consideration.

I don't think he should get anything...head first boarding was obviously NOT his intention.
It's just a bad circumstance but Mac didn't do anything to warrant a suspension IMO.
I thought the 5 minute major was too much actually.

The league will suspend MacArthur for a game. Thought they shouldn't

Edmonton fans are generally going wild and calling the Sabres a "dirty" team.

I browsed their boards after the game last night, they were teeing off about the Sabres being a dirty team and they really don't like Kaleta lol, I got a kick out of that as well.

On a side note, did you notice IceHound how many of their fans would like to see Hemsky gone? Man, they were bad mouthing him left and right.

This from the Buffalo news:

"Meanwhile, it appears left wing Clarke MacArthur will escape further penalty for his boarding major against the Oilers' Liam Reddox. Neither MacArthur nor Ruff received a call from the NHL this morning regarding the hit, so a fine or suspension is unlikely.

"I don't even feel like I leaned on him that hard," MacArthur said. "He just went in so quick.""

the only reason i see them issuing macArthur a game or two suspension is to send a message. Would Reddox have hit the boards on his own, yes, as hard probably not. the guy was going down to what looks like pick up the puck.

The reason Mac was still on his knees after that was because he knew what happened and felt bad because it wasn't intentional.. I would felt bad if I caused another player to get hurt.. There was nothing wrong with what Mac did.. These things happen. I'd be surprised if the NHL did anything more.

It was an accident. I felt bad for him AND MacArthur. Don't hockey players get trained to avoid getting hit like that? I don't like how the announcers were making it seem like MacArthur was at fault. I mean, he was half to blame, Reddox was also to blame, imo.

On the other hand...its hockey and that's what happens, sometimes. Right?

Looked to me when the puck was going in, MacArthur and Reddox both looked, and Clarke was going for shoulder and reddox turned his back, and when contact was made from MacArthur the back was already turned, then you see Clarkes head turn as he was pushing him into the board.

Then he realized what had happened and was like shit, I hope he's ok.

Wasn't intentional by any means, and it sucks Reddox put himself into that position.

I thought the major was uncalled for, but I had the benefit of slow-mo replay, AND the dude looked fucking paralyzed for a few minutes, so I can see why the refs went that way.

A suspension, handed out by anyone who had actually viewed the footage of this, would be a ridiculous travesty.

Hah...you know, it was pretty funny last night seeing macarthur kneeling there, KNOWING dude was hurt and trying to help him...while the oilers players are scrambling to tear his head off, they just managed to tousle his helmet a bit.

I had a very similar situation happen to me in a soccer game, me and this defender went for a ball at the same time, he got there a split second before my swinging foot, and I kicked him right in the ankle, between the shoe and shin-pad. Kid dropped to the ground and started HOWLING in pain, I felt so terrible, I dropped to my knees and had my hand on his chest just trying to like...I dont know, do SOMETHING for him. I didnt see the sweeper come up from behind me and clock me in the side of my face, I had to hear about it from my dad after I stumbled off the field seeing stars.
