Our schedule is brutal this month. Not only do we play tough teams, we play a lot of 3 in 4 nights. We're set up to fail.

Oilers this Wednesday, then Calgary and Philly back to back on Friday and Saturday.

The Panthers the next Wednesday, then the Bruins and Sens back to back on Friday and Saturday.

Capitals the following Wednesday, then the Flyers and Hurricanes back to back on Friday/Saturday.

How is this fair?

Blame Darcy - I always do.

You want to see a great schedule? Look at the Devils. Lamoriello knows how to play it, like a fiddle.

He squeezes every advantage out of the league and opposing teams and the schedule, as he can.

It's an art. Just like everything else in the game - People say: "...Meh. It doesn't matter. Quit griping..."

But, you wanna know something? It sure does. Everything matters. You bet.

And any GM worth his salt gets a system going that gives his team a distinct advantage.

Lou always picks early-week games...his players are usually rested, after having spent time at home, and most of the opponents are coming off one, two or more weekend games, where they've played because they know they can fill the seats, at home.

Trust me, on this. It's a fucking art.

I actually remember reading in an article that Uncle Lou purposely picks out all the Monday night matchups for the previously mentioned reason.

Someone, quick, make a comparison of Monday night games played by the Devils to everyone else in the league!

Wow, Ice, thats super interesting. Before this I had no idea GM's had any say in the schedule. Pretty cool. Except our GM doesn't seem to be using this to any advantage. Awesome Darcy

Ok, I'll play into the weekend thing with 3 in 4 nights. But how do you subscribe to the loses the Sabres are taking on Friday's?
I mean, every team has to play 2 in 3 nights on some stretch of their schedule. The 3rd game I can see the team being run out a bit, but this is no reason to lose on Friday's game. You have 3 days of no games after that 3rd game, the team should be rested plenty for the Wed. games and they should have the energy on Friday as well.

Well if this trend keeps continuing, and we keep losing a Friday game, then just don't watch on a Friday.

I think he wanted the team to be well rested in the beginning of the year with games coming from weekends far apart.

But after the Olympic break and I think in December, the schedule starts to be much more reasonable with games played and some rest in between but still playing their game type deal.

Arent there schedule-makers? Why should the GM's have a say. I just figured Lou got his team a good schedule because he is BFF with Bettman.

The GM's can request nights they want their team to play, and obviously some GM's have more pull than others.

I agree with you. I'm not making excuses. I'm saying that we play tough teams on Wednesday and Friday, tiring us out, and then we play more tough teams on Saturday. And we're usually away from Buffalo on Saturday, too.

I noticed that too, maybe Darcy needs to go to Mad'am Cocksuckers dick slobering 101 class. It appears as though Bettman is not pleased with Darcy's blow jobs, or he could just be using to much teeth

I hate our weekend schedules. Been like that the past 3 seasons.

Get use to this, Buffalo had a preety easy start to the season with playig bad teams and getting a ot f time off between games. Every team in the NHL goes through these stretches of hard games with little time off.

I don't think the team is told play 110% on the Friday game just so that they have some energy left for the Saturday game.. I think Ruff uses shorter shifts on Friday too, so that the players don't get too exausted..

IMO if the GM does have a say in the schedule making, this is exactly what Darcy would pick. All the Friday and Saturday games are the Gold and Silver games. They want to get the biggest draw they can. It's more likely to sell out the weekend games than it is to sell a Wednesday game. So, offer the lower tiered game during the middle of the week with lower priced tickets to ensure you can still sell out the games, while profitting from the big money weekend games.

That's right Adam. It's a result of being a small market team that can't make as much money as other teams despite selling a lot of tickets, and other financial contraints that some Buffalonians don't want to acknowledge.

Sounds more like Golisano than Regier ;) .
