ya know, hes a fringe guy to me. but i think he could add alot down the stretch. depth scoring, and he plays decent two-way hockey, if my mind serves me. plus he won a cup with carolina (though he was hurt) and he did win the DEL championship during the lockout season. hes just a really good player i would love to have. and hes a buffalo area boy, right?

Oswego, so moreso CNY than WNY.

Might as well just get Bernier back, he and Cole are essentially the same player when not paired with Staal

Do not mistake CNY for WNY. Oswego is starting to get into the North Country, its not even so much CNY.

A few games ago, I would have agreed in full with this, however, I think under James Patrick, and the new Power Play system we're running, we've been explosive on the PP. Especially against Colorado, and Toronto. Granted at the deadline, if we're struggling again, I'd be all for bringing Kovie in, but not for what his speculated value will be. Especially not with the depth of talent in the next few drafts.

For me, the 'This team isn't ready to go "All In"' is the best argument against adding Kovalchuk.

Although, the lack of depth in upcoming drafts might be a good reason to rent Kovy as the Sabres 2010 1st may not be that great.

Also, the Sabres have some solid prospect depth, so it might be interesting in how the Sabres could set up a deal for an impact guy this year.

I'd like to hold onto forwards like Ennis & Kassian. But, who knows how much value guys like Gerbe, Adam, Gogulla, and other forwards might have.

The Sabres also have some good depth on D and in net.

I don't think any moves will be made at the deadline to add players, so much as getting something for pending UFAs. Paetsch, Mair, and maybe Lydman could be moved for a draft pick, but that's about all I can see happening. Normally I'd throw in Tallinder as well, but I doubt Darcy will want to mess around with the Myers/Tallinder pairing at all. Paetsch and Mair won't get much anyway seeing as they both cleared waivers, so I really don't see much activity. The trade deadline should be even more boring than usual.

though i support picking up another top six forward you can't just fling a name out there. you need a guy who is going to fit the system. Atlanta is built around kovalchuk being on the ice most of the game, he would not like playing here for a system where four lines are used. again kovy is used as an example. i think you need to look at a datsyuk like player who can play defense, add to the scoring threat, and not take time away from his teammates (again i use datsyuk as an example of a player that fits a system their are others and i am not suggesting he be the one to go after).

I agree with your assesment on what we would get. I however, do think we move Paetsch, Lydman and Mair at the deadline for draftpicks. I don't see Darcy making the same mistake as he has in the past and some teams needs will have changed by the deadline or maybe even sooner due to injury, line up adjustments or needs.

But I do agree, outside of Lydman, Paetsch and Mair would bring 4th round picks. Lydman would bring a 3rd rounder I would suspect. But, picks are picks.

Paetsch and Mair both cleared waivers this season.

I doubt that they'll have trade value at the deadline.

paestch might for a team looking for that defensive depth. but mair i doubt he'll fetch much. loods maybe like said a 3rd. i do like ennis and some of our prospects. but a couple of them i might be willing to give up if we could land the best offensive d-man in the draft, (Gragnani, brennan, mancari, perrson). we do need that and myers is doing a good job but i think most people see him more as a Defensive d-man. and if myers can play with butler as good as with a guy like tallinder, especially if tallinder slides any more, last game was the tallinder of the past year. and i'd guess he could fetch something a little more.

the cole situation. you'd be better off looking at dustin brown or shane doan, some one who is similar but not staal dependent. or heck it i'll throw out Corey Perry's name just cause i like him ( i doubt we'd have much of a shot at him, much like longoria to ever leave the rays).

Dustin Brown and Shane Doan are both captains of teams that are unlikely to move their captain.

Neither team is going to be like the Caps when they moved Clarkie.

Just look at our record with Russians. Russians are only playing well with other Russians we don't have them. We may see Kovy going back to the new formed russian league next season. No I wouldn't want him, we're not ready or in a shape to go "All-In" this isn't our year. Obviously its the Blackhawks run...

Mancari is an enigma to me, he tears up the AHL, he gets to the NHL and disappears. I expected him to atleast show up.
He really is a player who looks to never be able to transition to the NHL.

Wait, Mancari has 2 points in 7 games and he is horrible, but Gerbe had 1 point in 10 games and holy crap he is awesome? Give Mancari a chance up here again. No one has seen him up here this year so stfu about him!
