Eklund said it would be a deal that would happen around the deadline after the two teams see where they are positioned for the final push. In the end it's Eklund and its complete bull. But food for thought at the least.

Well, for what it's worth.
I would love Regher on the Sabres.
Signed at 4.02 mil for another 2 seasons past this one, and with Rivet's 3.5 mil coming off the books it's possible cap wise.
Regher and Weber in the top 4 partnering with Myers and Leopold would give Buffalo a solid DFD/OFD-PMD combination in their top 4.
And with Sekera all we could hope for is Schiestel/Brennan/Butler/Persson nab the #6/7 spots.

I wouldn't mind the top 4, but the other spots are big question marks.
But still, Regher would be a solid landing for Buffalo.

I'm not opposed to getting him at all.

I personally can't treat something as food for thought when the guy who came up with the idea put no thought into it whatsoever.

That's why I just poo-poo everything he writes out of hand.

lol. With Pegula coming in as owner, Eklund is gonna have a new Buffalo rumor for us everyday. Gaborik anyone?

I see the picture, but don't see an Eklund (turd) floating in the water.

Would a Dustin Brown or David Backes trade deal be out of possibility? i mean even with kassian in the pipeline those guys would help the sabres get bigger and stronger.

TBH I dont mind it. Dont like losing Staff but Regher would be a great pick up. It would also allow us to move Monty for a good pick or prospect. If we dont land Regher I say we re-sign Monty for 2 years.

Tanguay = Connolly

I don't know much about Glencross at all.

Regher is GREAT.

Glencross is a bottom six energy guy who's on pace for 20 goals or just under.

Sounds like a great deal for the Sabres! Which of course means it likely will not happen lol

Mondator is staying. If we acquire Regher, expect to see Butler, Sekera or Weber leaving.

I like to see who Jay Feaster considers the Flames' core players. It will be a post-Iglina future for sure.

Buffalo News
Buckywinkle has the Kings looking to acquire Connolly to play with Kopitar.

Kopitar may be one player the Kings want to get rid of this year. He has underperformed significantly to their standards and could use a change in scenery.

Well I'm glad that Connolly is playing a bit better lately. That will help his trade value a little.

We all want to trade Connolly, but how can the team make the playoffs without both him and Roy down the stretch? If they clearly fall out of contention then fine, but they're actually surging now. Lose Connolly and his production isn't insurmountable, but his PP and PK time probably is. Stepping it up for Roy is one thing, stepping it up for both of them isn't reasonable if you want to make the playoffs and win a series too.

We aren't getting trash for Connolly. Might as well keep him as a rental.

There would be a few teams interested in Connolly, and he would likely get a 2nd rd pick and more. Considering the players like Moore, Torres, Leopold, Grebeshikov, Sutton, Belanger (all for 2nd rd picks), MacArthur (for a 3rd and 4th), Dustin Boyd for a 4th and Andrew Alberts for a 3rd all at last years deadline, Connolly would easily get more.

That said, it depends on whether Buffalo wants to be serious about the playoffs, because as much as most fans hate Connolly, his special teams minutes will be hard to fill. Why toss away a chance at the playoffs if they keep playing well this month?

I look at it this way it all depends if anything comes back for Connolly. I do want Buffalo to make the playoffs but in all honesty they won't make it that far if they do make it. I would ship Connolly out in a heartbeat and would be shopping him now. But that's just me. I'm looking more into the future. Even though they have been playing well since December this team doesn't have enough firepower to make a deep run.

I agree, but keeping Connolly could be a win/win. From a fan's view, we're playing well, keep playing well and at least make the playoffs. From a business view, we make enough playoff revenue to pay the portion of Connolly's salary that could've been cut from the payroll and then some.

The only reason to trade Connolly is if we get a 1st rd pick, or a great, sure-fire prospect. A 2nd rd pick and a good prospect might work too.

If we weren't on the bubble it would be an easy decision.

I think a deal with the Devils could help the team. How about Morrisonn, 2nd rounder, and a good prospect for Arnott, 5th rounder, and Greene.

Morrisonn is a bigger, more physical player and he's more cap friendly for the Devils, who have several RFA deals to struggle with this summer, not the least of which is Parise. Greene is a keeper who could be signed long term for around 3-4 million if he works out. He's reliable and he has some decent skill too. Arnott would just be a rental to try and give the team some help at center so they can make the playoffs and beyond. It would not be his first rodeo, he would most likely fit right in and help the team immediately. He's not very fast anymore but he can still rip a puck last I checked.

Just trying to be realistic, it's tough to create a lot of trade ideas because pretty much everybody is in the playoff hunt right now.

Greene and Arnott are pending UFAs, so why should Buffalo give a player under contract, a prospect, and a better draft pick for them?

Arnott would be the kind of player to acquire if all other holes were filled but 3rd line center, and we wanted some vet grit and playoff experience. I'm not against getting him totally, but not for what you listed. NJ should expect picks and/or prospects only for those guys, so either player for a 2nd rd pick sounds about right (but I hate rental only trades).

During the summer I'd go after Greene big time. Ideally I'd want to sign Ehrhoff from Vancouver, but his contract will bust Buffalo's cap if they want to address other holes also. So I'd go after Wisniewski or Greene, and wait until the summer of 2012 to fill holes at forward.

Doubt the Kings are trading Kopitar. If so, send him to Buffalo.

I'm predicting something like this:

To Buffalo:

Versteeg

To Toronto:

2nd round pick, and Mancari or Gagnani

Then:

To STL
Connolly
+
Conditional Pick

To Buffalo:

Boyes

OR:

To EDM

Connolly
+
3rd

To Buf:

Penner

OR:

To PHX
Connolly and Butler
+
Pick

To Buf:

Stempniak (I know I know)
and Prospect Brett McLean

Then we will probably try to scrap out some other UFAs we don't plan on resigning for more prospects and picks
