I guess several people do not want Kopitar. Sorry for them.

There is no doubt we need a point producing playmaking top forward. We will get one externally, like it or not.

Who ever said that?

The comment were simply that Kopitar for Connolly is not an equitable trade for LA, and even if it were, Kopitar JUST signed a long term deal, and is unlikely to be moved right now anyway.

This is my big problem discussing trade ideas. People get all bent out of shape if factors that would hinder a trade from taking place get pointed out.

I will gladly spend 6 million on a productive player than 7 million on 2 underperforming players who will not be here much longer. With Pegula taking over, he will have the money to spend for productive NHL playerts.

I don't think anyone disagrees with that.

I think the point is that THAT $7M player isn't available.

Do we want a Kopitar-like player? If yes, who else plays similar to him?

He's a point per game player, but does he have the qualities necessary to lead a team to a Stanley Cup? I'm not so sure.

I don't know who brought this up but Kopitar isn't going anywhere. End of Story. The deal would have to be so lopsided that Dean Lombardi trades Kopitar. It's not happening. For those of us on the west coast Kopitar is the best offensive player the Kings have. Problem with Kings is they only have Dustin Brown, Ryan Smyth, Jarret Stoll, Justin Williams as their go to offensive players.

I would still shop Connolly in this race for the playoffs. No questions asked!
Connolly stats

38 games played 8 goals 14 assists 22 points and a -12.

Just get rid of this bum!!!

I agree, I don't see any possible scenario that would have them trade Kopitar.

The Sabres best bet is to find a cheap veteran rental like Arnott and then aggressively pursue Brad Richards in UFA, or make a block buster trade for Malkin.

I don't know where Richards wants to play, but he's one of only a dozen or so good #1 centers in the league, and there will be bidding. At age 30, and having a great season, his agent will probably advise him to try for the most security he can find. I'm talking about one of those 10 year 50 million dollar deals that set a player up for life in exchange for cap flexibility. He's already got a Cup, so I'm sure it will be about the money. Will the Sabres be interested in committing like that? I don't know.

3 years 18M is what Richards will get, and should be what he takes. Especially with the CBA expiring soon, and owners looking to change the Salary Cap rules to make big market teams able to afford more than 3 or 4 top notch players.

Heh...we shall see. The only relevant CBA is the one that will be in place this summer. A lot of teams would go even higher than 7/year if it's 3 years or less, because he's a lot better than Mikko Koivu (6.8/year).

Connolly for Kopitar is a balanced trade, enough said.

These boards have gone to shit if this was an argument.

Fortunately, there was not an argument. Instead, it is trying to motivate people when Pegula allows Darcy, if still employed, to acquire the point producing playmaking Stanley Cup winning center we need.

If not Kopitar, how about Brayden Schenn?

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/lak110209.html

No, Vanek is untradable.

I don't think LA would want anybody but Vanek, maybe Stafford.
We still don't know who's on the untradable list of Pegula. I guess Miller, Myers and Vanek.
