I'm not exactly up for it but i was talking to one of my friends in the Niagara County Sheriff's and he seems to think that the sabres would be looking to trade two forwards to land Whitney. He said something to the effect that the sabres like the leadership that grier, and rivet have added, and think whitney would be another key. Like i said i'm not sold on the move but i figure i'd post it in this thread as an idea. |

Whitney is having a huge year and would probably play LW on the second line. He's got 16 goals already this year, which would make him our leading goal scorer and 2nd in points. Again, as the poster above me said, depends on what we give up. But moving CMac and a 2nd third rounder or Gerbe gets it done im all in. He's an UFA and if we want him, the time would be now to do it with the trading freeze upcoming. |

Personally, I'd love it, but would prefer if we didn't have to shake up the current roster (other than scratching guys) to do it, ie, trade a pick and a prospect for him. Unless of course they want Hecht. |

He's got a cup and plenty of experience. He would be a good pickup for the rest of the year, but with him and impeding UFA status/retirement he won't go for much. Possibly a pick, or a prospect, no established players. |

Daren Dereger was talking about the Sabres possibly making a move for Whitney. He did not mention any possible players we would give up though. |

I read something about Ray Whitney on someone's facebook. He would be moved for a 5th round draft pick, and he called Jim Rutherford and asshole or something. How true it could be, I don't know, but I laughed at it. |

Ray Whitney's experience, leadership, and offense for a 5th to cover for one of our young, inexperienced, inconsistent forwards in a playoff run? Yes, please. Only problem is that with the demand so high(ie so many teams with a chance to get in), he won't come very easy. Another teams 'dead weight' will probably be more than we will offer. Cross your fingers. Edit: was thinking about it, and the only bait we have is Suckera. We'd have to give up(lose a roster player) to get him, and they don't want Mair, Ellis or Patches(nor does anyone). That leaves only one guy. Not sure I want that trade. In fact, I don't for sure. |

It would take more than a 5th, probably, but not a ton more. |

My Guess is the Pens will find a way to ink him, much like they did Hosa and Guerin the past two years, if memory serves me correct .

Not a bad idea, though I'm leery of his age. Still, he has put up solid stats the last several years as a two way player despite being a career -97. |

Whitney is the only Cane I've ever liked (maybe Brind'Amour, but more-so when he was a Flyer). I like the Whitney proposal

I would take Ruutu, Staal, or Cole from them. Ruutu is a solid agitator and can put up a decent amount of points, Cole is a solid power forward type guy, and well Staal is still a great player. But those three aren't going anywhere. Whitney would still be a solid playoff push, plus he is 37 so it's easily to just part ways with him after this year anyways. |

I see Ray Whitney coming to the Sabres and getting a fire lit under his ass. |
