For the record, I detect 100% seriousness in Mike's post, for anyone who thinks he might be being sarcastic. Am I right, Mike? And Lydman + Gerbe for Sharp? YES PLEASE. Also, when Jay gets into this thread, he's gonna gloat he predicted years ago that Sharp would be good. Pat yourself on the back dood. |

I dont think Lydman and Gerbe alone get us Sharp. Probably have to add a draft pick. 1st or 2nd. |

I'd do it in a heartbeat also. I'm doubting they can retain Sharp since they already decided on Toews and Kane. He plays left wing, so does Hecht get moved to third line? Or would he be willing to play right wing for our top line? |

I remember the game after Sharpie was shipped to Chicago and he had an uber game against the Wings that night. I said it then, he was going to be awesome. Philly shit the bed on that one. As for Sharp coming to Buffalo, I'd do Loods+Gerbs in a second. What's left on his contract in Chi-town anyway? I'd offer an additional 2 years onto it. Sure some may say you'd have to see what he plays like in Buffalos system first before tossing around that coin, but looking at how he's played over the last 3-4 seasons it would be dumb not to lock him up. He's been consistant enough to garner a decent contract IMO. |

I heard per Darren Dreger on TSN that McKee might be going to Chicago so I highly doubt the Hawks want any of the so so defense on the Sabres. |

Not sure on the particulars, but I'd guess that CHI would want a better cap to cap return than Loods would afford. I'll bet they only gain a million or so(not sure). The deal they take will have to be a cap friendly deal for them. Loods makes decent money, is not playing well, and is a UFA(pretty sure). Not sure his market value is high. |

What is Sharp's contract status? And yeah, if they're needing to ship Sharp out for cap reasons, they're probably looking for a cheaper alternative (sweetened with picks or prospects?). Unless it's a multi-player deal and they can dump a little more salary. Ham |

I haven't seen anything from the Chicago organization that they are actively shopping him, of course, I haven't heard them say they aren't as well. They'll keep him through the season Ham, probably try to move him at the draft. I would think they could get a 2nd rd pick for him come draft time. Chicago has good chemistry right now and is a contender for the Cup, why would they mess with that. |

Oh, I'm not saying he's going mid-season. I was just wondering what his status would be, and where Chicago would sit in relation to the cap. Ham |

Unless it's a multi-player deal and they can dump a little more salary. Ham Sharp's cap hit is $3.9M and he is under contract through the 2011-12 season. Sharp is in the boat with Versteeg, Byfuglien, and Barker as guys with $3+ M cap hits beyond 09-10 that many people think will be shipped out to give the Hawks cap relief when the extensions for the Big 3 kick in next season. I would suspect that something more like Stafford + [Butler or Sekera] would get the deal done. But, I don't know if the Sabres want to move a young defenseman given the UFA status of Tallinder & Lydman. |

Sharp is clearly up for grabs, but Chicago has 60M tied up in 15 players next year. The salary cap isn't even going to be 60M, they're not going to take on Staffords 2M or Mac's 1.3M they are going to take on NO SALARY, which means draft picks. Sharp could be had for a 1st round pick + 3rd round, and nothing less. Versteeg, 2nd rounder + 3rd Dustin B-and some additional letters- 2nd rounder It's not like Chicago is able to take players back with salary, because they simply CANT. The whole concept of trading Stafford's 1.9M cap hit and Butlers .850M cap hit, saves them what? 1.1M? They don't make any progress there, they just barely get to the cap, and still need to fill 4 more roster spots with no space. Chicago will take multiple picks for them, nothing less, nothing more. |
