I know Cheechoo is having a bad year, but what would you think about claiming him off waivers? Maybe not on the way down and have to pay $3.5m this year and next, but if he comes up on re-entry and only have to pay half the salary. He definitely can be an asset (has scored 30+ goals 4 times including 59 three years ago) and has the potential to turn things around. I would be sure that when we played the Sens he would be fired up enough to maybe help the Sabres beat them for once this year.

I think Cheechoo would play well in the system we have in place.

That said, he hasn't been the same player.

Doesnt mean a change of scenery wouldnt help him out a lot either...

His move from San Jose to Ottawa didn't do him much good.

you dont score 50 goals in a season without having serious talent. i dont care who your line mates are. he probably played out of his mind that season, but i think he can still be a very very capable top 6 player.

I agree you don't score 50 goals in a season without having some talent but he's been on a freefall mode the last 2 years and doesn't look like that same player. It must be very frustrating to be in that guys shoes right now. He will be given a chance somewhere but it won't be in Buffalo.

You're definitely right Irony, but the last thing this team needs is another underachiever struggling to reach his full potential.

Cheechoo has only score 28 goals, 56, 37, and 23 are his four seasons with his best totals.

Cheechoo is not the same player he used to be. And a change of scenery did him nothing. I would be opposed to trying to pick him up if he re-enters.

He would be a huge risk to take on, and if he can't become what he was early in an Jose why pick him up at all?

If he was struggling recently in San Jose, and now struggling on an offensive Ottawa team, what makes anyone think a lack luster Sabres team will help him out?

Getting him through reentry and only having a year at $1.75m to pay to take a stab at a guy who did score 56 one year and has 20+ four times, I say do it. Is it really taking that much of a risk?

Is that for the duration of the contract, or just this year? But even if, we only would be responsible for around 800K this year or so.

He's making $3.5 m this year and next. If we claimed him thru reentry waivers, we would only have to pay half of his salary $1.75m, but since the season is more than half over he only has $1.5m remaining on this year's salary, we would only be on the hook for $750k.

He's all washed up. 50 goals in a season then he sucks. Obviously, something went up that year, he is not good. Don't want him.
