Theres a guy who always posts on the bills message board and says he knows a scout in the sabres organization that says the sabres and the bruins are in a bidding war for ray whitney. Also that the sabres have been talking to florida about weiss and horton. Who knows if he really does know someone but we can wish rite  ? Heres what he posted but you have to be signed up to look at it but it sounds like he knows what he's talking about it's toward the bottom of the first page http://boards.buffalobills.com/showthread.php?t=229989

Whitney, yes. Horton, yes. Weiss..not so sure. He's had a strong season this year, but in the past was just a two-way 3rd line guy without much size. Not sure that fills the bill for what we really need, but I'd take him over MacArthur.

The actual quote, should you choose the believe that random message board posters have contacts in the organization, especially when they have difficulty with spelling and punctuation:

Quote:
after talking to my source in the orangization...i really only give this a 15% chance of happening at most...darcy did talk to LA about frolov's availability, but thats about it

Followed up with:

Quote:
well buffalo and boston are in a bidding war for whitney, and buffalo is talking to florida about the services of both weiss and horton. Also, if the sabres do make a deal for a pending UFA, expect them to have an extension in place before the deal is finalized....as in the case for whitney. If the sabres do out bid the bruins, and possibly the kings(who are in it 1 day then out the next) expect a 2/3 year extension to be signed as soon as it goes down if indeed it does

Depending on the players being shipped the other way, I'd be open to acquiring any of those guys. But signing Whitney to an extension would have to be done on the cheap. It has to be a contract that can be moved should the Sabres decide to go another direction a year down the road.

Keep in mind that Weiss hasn't really ever had a great winger playing with him. He plays on a different line than Horton, and just this year got Reinprecht (sp?) to play along side him. Weiss is a very good center, and has some solid vision. I've followed him closely over the past few years. He's a player we'd all love in Buffalo, think a poor mans Daniel Sedin. Not overly physical, but great hands and vision.

I'd take all three, shore up our center position nicely, and with Whitney you got a guy if acquired would be our leader in points or right near it.

He may be older, but he is still playing at a high level in his game.

Plus one of my good friends is named Stephen Weis (only 1 s). It would rock to have him on the Sabres.

Two different style players.

Stempers would be solid pick up, but for a top 6 guy. Whitney would be more of a hard nose puck possession PP guy.

Both would be an ideal situation, but I'd rather have Whitney if I had to choose between the two. Spemniak will be a possibility come July 1st though.
