James Murphy reported sources claiming trade talks involving Nashville Predators defenseman Dan Hamhuis have intensified to the point where he may be dealt immediately following the lifting of the NHL's Olympic "trade freeze" on March 1. The Bruins, Penguins and Sabres are believed interested with the asking price being a scoring forward and either a high second-round or low first round draft pick. The Buffalo News reported the Florida Panthers could move either Nathan Horton or Cory Stillman, suggesting the Sabres might be interested in either of those forwards... The Sabres could use scoring forwards like Horton, Stillman or Frolov and GM Darcy Regier has a history of deadline dealing. It remains to be seen however if he'd be able to land them, especially Horton... http://www.spectorshockey.net/index.php ... s&Itemid=4 |

Not sure if Hamhuis would help or be an upgrade from what we have and will be a UFA at seasons end. So how much would we have to give up for him as a rental. Frolov, still not interested in getting him. Horton and Stillman are the most intriuging. I would like Stillman based on play and playoff experience. He has 1 year remaining at $3.5m. The downside is he is a left winger which is not really what we need. Now Horton would be the ideal pick up I believe. He is a good play making center to pair with Vanek. In 51 games this year he has 17g and 29a for 46 points. He is under contract for 3 more years at $4, 4.5 and 5m. Same as Roy's remaining contract. At 6'2" and 229lbs, he would add some needed size as well. I wuld offer Roy a prospect and a pick to get Horton. |

As much as I would love to have Horton here, that is a lot that you are offering. I would trade Roy or Stafford and 1st or 2nd for Horton and a 5th. |

Hamhuis would be an unreal pick up. And with Tallinder and Loods off the books at the end of the year we could re-sign Hammy for a couple of years as he's only 26. |

I'd want Horton over Stillman, I don't even know if Stillman has played any games this year and if he has, he has had some bad injury problems recently. |

I would love to have Hamhuis, I wonder if Nashville would be stupid enough to trade him. |

But the guy can play both positions. |

The risk with Horton is that he is on the trade block because the Panthers want to remake their locker room with harder working players and there are questions about Horton's work ethic. Depending on what it would take to get Horton, I would make the move. But, I wouldn't give up the Sabres' 2010 1st, a core guy like Roy, or a top prospect to land Horton. I'd be more than willing to go the volume route by offering up something like Stafford, Gerbe, and Brennan.... |
