Buffalo gets a great leader and a strong veteran presence in the locker room in Langenbrunner. He's won two cups and and is a very effective second line winger with great defensive abilities. Salvador is a gritty stay-at-home defenseman and would bring a nice physical element to the Buffalo D. He plays a good shutdown game and is pretty mobile for a defensive defenseman. He's also an established veteran and brings loads of experience.

For New Jersey, this ushers in the Parise era. Stafford needs a change of scenery, and what better place to put him than on a line with fellow UND alumni Parise and Zajac. Butler is a young, physical, right shooting defenseman and has an upside pretty similar to that of Salvador. Knapp won't be challenging Miller for the starter position anytime soon, but he's already made a name for himself and New Jersey certainly doesn't enjoy only having one goalie in the system.

While Langenbrunner’s leadership may have been questioned, there is reason to believe he was respected by most in the dressing room. And if the team is looking to trade him, Langenbrunner would have to waive his no-trade clause.

Langenbrunner is anxious to find out who will be the Devils’ next coach. He played for one candidate, Ken Hitchcock, in Dallas.

“I played for Hitch in the minors and then for seven-eight years in Dallas,” Langenbrunner said. “He is one of the smartest hockey guys around. He knows the game. He’s very strong in the way he wants the game to be played. He’s a demanding coach, but I enjoyed playing for him. He gave you a chance to win. He pushed you.
“He definitely helped me a lot. I think he treats different players differently to a certain extent, a lot like Pat Burns did.”

That would be a great deal for Buffalo. I would replace Knapp with Enroth though. Enroth probably hates the idea of having to start another season in Portland and looking up at Ryan Miller is probably making him think really hard what Gogulla and Zagrapan have decided to do.
