It's one thing to say what position you want to improve, it's another to get specific and say which player. For this summer, out of players that are UFAs or potentially on the trading block, who would it be? Here are some options...

UFA Cs -
Marleau
Jokinen
Koivu
Cullen
Plekanec
Lombardi
Comrie

UFA LWs -
Kovalchuk
Whitney
Frolov
Tanguay
Holmstrom
Ponikarovsky

UFA RWs -
Dimitra
Selanne
Stempniak
Guerin
Recchi

UFA D-men -
Lidstrom
Gonchar
Niedermayer
Kubina
Martin
Mitchell
Sutton
Corvo
Volchenkov
Seidenberg
Hamhuis
Leopold
McKee
Bergeron
Foster

A few big name players that might be on the trading block are Iginla, Sharp, Souray, Malkin, and Kaberle (although he might technically be a UFA). Explain how you'd fit your player under the cap too.

I'd try to trade Stafford + pick/prospect for Sharp. That would add 2 mil to the cap, so with Lydman and Tallinder walking and saving 5.4 mil, I'd re-sign just one or sign only one new d-man for around 2.5 mil. If Sharp isn't on the block or goes somewhere else, I'd sign Stempniak for 2.5-3 mil and trade Stafford anywhere for a pick.

I would make a serious run at Holmstrom.

I would see if he would play RW with Vanek, if not, try and get malkin, but Myers won't go anywhere so that would be a trade not gonna happen.

Sharp would be nice to add also. If we don't sign either Loods or Hank, we should try and get either Sutton/Siedenberg/Corvo and bring up Weber.

I wouldn't mind a Sutton/Myers pair as Sutton is a guy to take no shit, and is 6'6 I believe.

I know its been said that we need a pp QB. But I want Willie Mitchell. Let Tallinder and Lydman walk and pick up Mitchell and put TC and Myers on the point.

Yup, only because he's a legit 1st line center who will make Vanek WAYYY better. If Ennis ever got a shot to play with those 2, watch out; a REAL 1st line.

This is a SERIOUS pipe dream, but I imagined earlier today that Darcy managed to sign Marleau and trade for Iginla. Vanek-Marleau-Iginla. Boosh.

lets expand on this a little....

1 - could you get it under the cap

2 - what does the trade for iginla look like

3 - With 2 d-men walking, you bring up Weber and sign.... or are you putting Sekra and/or butler in full time? ... I liked Weber and Sekra way back when, but thats two pretty young guys to have back there..

4 - Are you getting rid of anyone else to make cap room

5 - GOD THAT WOULD BE AN AMAZING FREAKING LINE!!!!!!

Awwww shit, the Rangers got him! :shock: completely disregarding the salary cap, they signed him for a record 15 million a season until the day he dies... Or for 5 years. Which ever comes first. ;)
