Post subject:	Gonchar for 2 years?
This has been discussed in various threads but I thought it would be totally awesome if there was a single thread dedicated to it. I think we can all agree that this is a good time to add another top 4 puck moving/power play specialist to the blue line. Kaberle certainly is an option, but instead of trading players/picks for a possible 1 year rental why not make an aggressive offer to Gonchar and give up nothing but some cap space for a couple of years. Myers is going to become a huge cap hit (5-7 million once he improves his game over the next 2 seasons) and if that coincides with another big contract moving on then it becomes a very smart investment and allows for flexibility down the road. As for on the ice, Sarge is a step slower then he was 4 years ago but speed was never his game. He's one of those cerebral players who thinks ahead all the time. Head up all the way, in 5 years as a Penguin he hasn't put his head down once, not even to tie a skate. It's kind of creepy actually how he never looks at the puck when shooting and everything else. He's still one of the 5 best in the league at running a power play, and if you paired him with a very reliable player like Lydman, Gonchar's less-then-aggressive D-zone coverage doesn't drive you insane. Certainly an option. What say you?
