Hey guys,

So I was thinking. Maybe we let Mair and Ellis walk, that leaves two huge holes on our 4th line, and assuming we resign McCormick, we're looking at having 1 open spot.

Well we all know Ennis, and Gerbe are going to try to make the roster next year, and probably will, meaning we lack some toughness, but have excess skill. (Story of our franchise the past 3 or 4 years)

What would you think about moving Drew Stafford to STL for BJ Crombeen (Enforcer/4th liner) 6'2 210 with a bit of a mean streak. And also we receive a 2nd or 3rd round pick. One it helps relieve a bit of cap, gives us another roster player with true grit and toughness, and fills our role of needing an enforcer.

STL gets a mildly sized forward, with some skill, but perhaps needing a change of scenery.

Thoughts?

Why not over-pay for Backes? He brings excess toughness and scoring talent, plus serious wheels.

I know Backes isn't necessarily on the table, but I wouldn't be opposed to sending Stafford, ButlerConnolly, Stafford, and a 2011 second to St. Louis for Backes and a 2010 third.

Despite what we saw out of him this year, I'd like to think that Stafford would be worth a little more than that...

Stafford, Butler +2nd for Backes, maybe? Worth a 1st even???

it's a cap dump, and adding a 3rd rounder, not to get us a franchise player. But if it frees up money for a player like Marleau or Paul Martin, it's well worth it.

was your wrist limp when you typed hey guys? lol

I don't know crombeen all that well so I can't say much. I'm a big fan of addition by subtraction though.

from what i've read in the draft preview - THN - is thinking St. Louis needs a sniper. And i agree with phil if you are going to go after a player on St. louis why not go after backes even if you over pay. lets face it darcy isn't afraid to do that. 2nd for moore, and Torres. If he did trade for backes it would be a decent trade for a change.

I mean, I know Backes isn't on the table (he's part of the Blues' core, after all) but everyone has a price and overpayment can make it happen.

Crombeen has a higher cap hit ($872.5K) than Mair ($758.3k) or Ellis ($500k) did and I don't see a huge upgrade.

I'd rather just move Stafford for a better pick and forget about adding Crombeen.
