Patrick O'Sullivan was waived by Carolina today.

Number: 8
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 190
Shoots: Left
Born: Feb 1, 1985 (Age 25)
Birthplace: Toronto, ON, Canada

Acquired: Signed a one-year, two-way contract on Sept. 17, 2010

Not real familiar with his situation. Any one care to enlighten?

53 point season with LA a couple of years ago and then just tanked.

I'd take a chance on him or Ryan Carter.

I mean, I'm no expert on the guy, so I really don't know.
But, he is a center, and if we are losing Connolly (is it really a lose?) and Niedermayer, the only replacement I see is Adam from Portland.
Maybe Hecht in for Connolly?

Anyways, He's on waivers at 600k for the season. I'd like to see what he can do if he's even worth it.

TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie
If O'Sullivan clears, CAR may also expore trade possibilities. But some teams are checking into O'Sullivan vis a vis waivers so we will see.

we'll see

Yeah, I read that. And why wouldn't they? A young, former 53-point player making $600K a year? Sign me up. Put him with the right guys, and he'd be golden.

Ho-hum. Another mediocre player that isn't very interesting.

Idk, I see no guarantee that he'd be a better option than Niedermayer.

im all for it, a former 53 point player thats only 25 getting paid 600k? sounds like a great deal.

Be prepared, the Sabres COULD be claiming him if my intuition is right. We're without Neidermayer for minimum 2 weeks, probably closer to a month, and the Sabres seem reluctant to call up Luke Adam for some reason. It wouldn't at all shock me if we brough in O'Sully for a short term solution.

His problems are far more then switching to another team.

I don't think he'd do any more then sit in a press box here. I would say go after it, but he was ruined by his dad, the poor guy too.

2 way contract, let him sit in Portland at the very least ;)

From what I've heard, he was in the doghouse almost from the start in Carolina, and didn't get a chance to play with quality players. He was on the 4th line most of the season. I'd take a chance on him!

Isn't Patrick O'Sullivan the guy with the terrible daddy issues whose father almost killed him and his family while he played junior hockey?

I read the CBC piece on him about it. What a fucked up situation. He was such a high-ranked prospect and his dad's meddling fucked a lot of it up.

Only six months after the disastrous night in Ottawa, Patrick was at the pinnacle of his hockey career and about to be selected to a NHL team.

The day of the draft he was assigned two league bodyguards because the Canadian restraining order wasn't in effect in Nashville, Tennessee.

CATHIE MARTIN: "We knew he couldn't do anything but you were just hoping and praying he wouldn't show up. And, of course, he (John O'Sullivan) was there. And he sat across the way from us so we could see him."

When the first round came to an end, 30 players had been chosen and Patrick was not one of them. Across the arena, John O'Sullivan gestured to his family. He wondered what had gone wrong.

CATHIE MARTIN: "It was as if what's wrong with you? What have you done?"
BOB MCKEOWN: "Would he not know that perhaps he was one of the reasons why?"
CATHIE MARTIN: "He has no idea."

Just before the end of the second round, Patrick was chosen by the Minnesota Wild.

DON CHERRY: "That hurt him because he had the numbers. He should have been a first rounder all the way."
BOB MCKEOWN: "So a general manager would look at him and say..."
DON CHERRY: "Don't want the problem."

Well, tonight we'll get to see what Minny plan's on doing with POS.
I am curious as t how he responds to the trade and if he can have a breakout of sorts with new scenery.
