Was listening to fan 950 out of laughs nation today.

They were discussing the Sabres ownership situation and something came up I was already aware of.
Mr. Pegula's team likes Malkin, and he is in Pittsburg for tonights game along with Darcy "No Nuts" Regier.

Speculation abounded appearantly this morning on the local Pitt radio station about a possible deal coming either at the deadline or in the off season to bring Malkin to Buffalo.

The discussion was on who would be leaving Buff and the consensus was Pomminville, Weber or Sekera, a high end prospect such as Kassian or McNabb and a 1st rdr or a couple of 2nd rdr's.

What are your thoughts on this peeps?

Malkin in a Sabres uniform?

Malkin could be able to pass a few pucks to Vanek, the garbage collector.

I prefer character/leader types to give up that much, but for the sake of argument...

I think Pominville, Sekera, and a 1st or...

Pominville, Sekera, Kassian and a 2nd would be fair.

Keep Kass, send McNabb

My buddy said something about hearing rumors on a trade like this a while ago as well. I want to say he saw it on ESPN insider but I'm not sure.

That'd certainly be interesting. Is Pominville, Sekera/Weber, McNabb and a 1st enough, though?

If Pitt would take that deal I'd do it in a heartbeat. Preferably send Sekera.

Aside from a cap relief aspect, I'm not sure why Pittsburgh would want to do this.

To actually get wingers on their team

Pominville with Crosby would probably rejuvenate Pominville's game. Plus Staal is a second line center on any team, and Letestu gets to stay with the big club and he looks promising too.

I would do it in a heartbeat if they wanted Pominville, Sekera, and a pick r prospect, anymore is overkill, but I wouldn't send Kassian to them, he needs to stay with us, plus Ennis is untouchable too.

I don't think it's a good deal for Pittsburgh at all. Pomminville gets $5.3 million, Sekera $1. Malkin makes $8.7. So all Pittsburgh would be getting is another 2 mil in cap space and a pick in exchange for losing their 2nd best player. I don't see that as good for them.

Wow. Didn't expect this to actually kind of convince me. But it seems like it could actually be true.
Pominville would thrive in Pittsburgh and hit a point per game for sure.
And if we got Malkin, I can't help but smile when I think of how our center position would look like through the lines.
It seems unlikely, but if DR and T-Pegs really are there together tonight, that definitely makes a case for it and makes things interesting.
Imagine these offensive lines :o
Vanek-Malkin-Stafford
Ennis-Roy-Kassian/Adam/Byron
Hecht-Connolly-Gerbe
Niedermayer-Gaustad-McCormick

Very solid!
And although I hate Connolly this year, he looks awfully good centering the 3rd line!

I can't deny that when I read the the part about "could be right" in the thread title, a little bit of poop came out.

I still doubt it; but the value is close. It's a trade that could benefit both teams, and relieve Pitt of some much needed cap space. They have over spent on a lot of the UFA's they've purchased over the past few years.

I say it has about a 12.5% chance of happening.

I could see how Pomminville might be a nice fit on the Penguins wing, despite the fact that they prefer a much more physical style of player-especially on the wings. It helps that he is good at working the point on the PP.

Other than that you can forget ANY defense men mentioned. They don't need or wany any changes at all to their BL.

If Pomms is the center piece, you can also say goodbye to Kassian and more including a #1 pick.

I'd say about an e0.25? If this came from hb.com, it would likely be reported as an e5 with a, "You heard it here first!"

Letestu is out 4-6 weeks. I think this gives this trade idea less legs since they are now down 2 centers.

Please, no major transactions will ever be affected by the likes of a Letestu who is easily replaced by Jeffries.
