Ok, were almost at the 25% mark of the season. With the Olympic break effectively the period for the trade deadline and with our UFA's and RFA's on the board, lets talk some possible scenairios on roster moves here.

UFA's:

Grier - I do not see Buffalo resigning him next year, but I do see him playing out the season.

Mair - I do not see Buffalo resigning him next year, but he may be tradable, alone or in a package towards the trade deadline. Sad about the waiver incident. Not sure what to think here.

Ellis - I see Buffalo resigning him. Well worth it too.

Tallinder - I see him being traded, although he is playing much better but could bring in some picks and/or prospect or talent in a package.

Lydman - I see him being traded, although he could be resigned.

Paetsch - Tradable, but would they resign him?

RFA's:

Kennedy - No brainer, resign, but at what price and length on the contract? Any thoughts?

Kaleta - No brainer, resign, good fit for the team and decent price too. Any thoughts?

McArthur - Maybe a tradable, but more than likely, resign, but at what price?

Let's play a little with the roster here and have a little fun.
Who gets traded by the deadline? Who gets resigned and at what price? What draft picks do we pick up?
Who gets brought up from Portland to fill the holes? And what talent is brought in via FA or trade?

After all of those are answered, what does your roster look like, line by line, defensive pairings and what is your salary cap hit for next seasons roster? Whats your draft picks look like this coming draft (how many first rounders, how many 2nd rounders, etc...etc...)?

Have it peeps, lets see what we look like at the start of next season.

I think if Regier doesnt re-sign Grier than he should be shot. Grier is a great leader and a difference maker in the locker room. I'd like to see him signed for 2 years at the same price. Ellis as well.

For the RFA's I think Mac, if he finishes strong could get the same deal Staff got.
Kennedy should get a one or two year deal. Kaleta I think has earned a 2-3 year contract.

For trades I'd love to see Stafford and a third for Patrick Sharp.
Then perhaps Lydman and Mair for Sean O'Donnell.
And Maybe if it were possible, Vanek for Wolski and Hannan or Liles.

I would fucking love to have Wojtek Wolski in the Blue and Gold

I think Grier gets another one year deal.

Kaleta gets resigned no matter what. Kennedy will be signed.

Ellis has great work ethic to be resigned.

I see Tallinder or Lydman getting signed, whoever is playing better at the time, and the other possibly getting traded midseason.

I agree with this post, with the exception of one detail - I don't think either Tallinder or Lydman gets resigned, even though one of them well definitely get dealt before the deadline.

Here is what I can see happening, if Darcy is cunning enough to pull it off.

Grier just gets let go (Thats why he's on a 1 year deal)
Tallinder and Lydman get traded by the deadline.
Mair either gets traded or walks like Grier.
Kennedy gets resigned, Kaleta gets resigned. McArthur gets Resigned.
Hecht gets dealt by the draft, not the deadline.

Lines:

Vanek - Roy - Stafford
McArthur - Connolly - Pomminville
Kennedy - Ennis - Kaleta
Ellis - Gaustad - ?

D-pairings
Rivet - Butler
Myers - ?
Montador - Sekera/Paetsch

Defensively I see 1 of 4 potentials from the AHL, Gragnani, Weber, Persson or Brennan.
I see 1 of these guys coming up this year at the trade deadline, most likely Gragnani or Weber.
I also see Sekera and/or Paetsch being traded.
All trades would be for draft picks unless Darcy shocks the shit out of me and dumps Stafford or Pomminville in a package for a blockbuster trade.

Maybe in a dream, but that's about it.

Sign Kane and Biron in the off season. free up the space. resign grier, kennedy, kaleta, re-sign macArthur. promote ennis. sign tallinder, trade lydman with hecht, and pominville (free's up some space).

I scrapped everything I originally said about this move. If we can move Pommers, this is a perfect move. I think Lydman and Hecht are gone anyways, either by the deadline or draft. Whichever. But ya, if we can dump Pommers Salary, I would love to have Kane come in. This would be the RWer we would want on Line 1.
