Senators stagger into Buffalo minus their big guns"OTTAWA -The Ottawa Senators, without Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza and Nick Foligno, will be in Buffalo for a game Saturday against the Northeast Division-leading Sabres.
This should tell fans all they need to know about this team.
To make the odds even longer, the Senators' No. 1 goalie, Pascal Leclaire, is still working his way back into form after sitting out a month with a broken cheekbone. His first game back, Wednesday's 8-2 bombing by the Pittsburgh Penguins, hardly boosted his confidence.
About the only thing the Senators have going for them is their mastery over the Sabres. Since the lockout, Ottawa is 22-6-4 against Buffalo, including a pair of regulation wins this season at Scotiabank Place.
But don't expect the Sabres, who are coming off an embarrassing 5-2 loss to the Washington Capitals, to be starting Patrick Lalime in goal.
They'll be looking to end this Ottawa hex, so they'll be turning to Ryan Miller, who figures to be Team USA's starter at the Olympics. He leads the league with a .935 save percentage and is second in goals-against average at 1.99.
The Senators are expected to update Alfredsson's condition Saturday morning.
He injured his left shoulder when Pittsburgh's Craig Adams hammered him in the first period of Wednesday's game. Alfredsson had his arm in a sling after the game and didn't express any optimism."...I'm taking an "even a blind squirrel" approach to this game. Sabres win, going away. A serious pounding.
Or,
dere be lotsa 'splainin' to do, Lucy...and we'll be at each other's throats, like a pack of friggin' hyenas.
