Rosters are firming up - Should be seeing a bit more competition from the Capitals, tonight.

The possibility of Bruce Boudreau inserting Ovie, Semin and Green into the line-up will make for a more challenging and interesting match-up, for the Sabres.

Third game of the pre-season - The chance to better see what our rookies and imported "studs" can do together.

Let's hope we see a hint of "gelling".

And lets hope some players on the bubble step it up, and make things interesting when it comes to final roster selection... (Or even better, players currently outside the bubble.)

Going to miss this one too, because I'll be at work. Oh well...I keep telling myself it's only preseason. But it's still weird for me to be missing all these games, I rarely ever miss a Sabres game!

listening to RJ is like watching TV. i still think they should project his voice through out the arena. As well when did the caps change the name of their arena, did verizon back out.

It'll be interesting if he actually *does* insert Semin into the lineup

Sabres came out with lots of energy, then backslid into their usual "sleepwalk" mode for the first two periods - Miller standing on his head for the entire game, to keep them in contention.

They finally awoke in the third, after looking disjointed and raggedy. Roy scored an open-netter, top shelf to tie it at one, then a Butler laser-shot, screened from the point was tipped by Vanek for the go-ahead.

The Wings pressed very hard toward the end with Miller making save-after-incredible-save to seal the win - The Goose with the empty-netter, in the dying seconds.

Kudos to Paetsch-Ellis-Kaleta for showing energy and hustle all game long.

The rookie D showed very well, too - Myers getting more solid and confident, even when pressed. Butler - This guy is big league already. No sending him down; he should even supplant someone like Tallinder, on the depth chart. Weber, who is obviously bound and determined to stay up, played a very solid and aggressive game - Using his large frame generously and taking charge with his heads-up, sensible puck-movement.

Grier played limited time, but was rough-and-tumble, and take-no-shit, while he was out there - Solid forecheck, good use of the body - Caught a retaliatory penalty, to assert a "who's boss" after a questionable hit, in the corner.

Not a bad game - But, they still need to come out, and CONTINUE to maintain an energy level - Conditioning and mental discipline are brought into question.

Gotta play a full 60 minutes.

Thanks Ice, appreciate the update. Good to hear that their working hard. I expected growing pains so I hope they work out the kinks before the season starts.

DF: The downside...The PP was, once again stymied by its' own "cuteness", with silly inopportune passing that went nowhere - Primary culprits, Pommers and Connolly.

Both these guys showed some (very limted) effort, but were terribly out of synch and unable to to find the net. "Broad side of a barn" syndrome.

Gragnani was the obvious goat (for leaving the "back-door" open) on a slick goal-mouth pass from Datsyuk, for the first Detroit goal.

It's the Sabres...if everyone was firing on all cylinders I'd have to have my heart pills handy. That being said even in a preseason game I expected Detroit's depth to be too much for us. A good sign that we could finish with them, but that's coming from not actually seeing the game.

I've got a friend who's a Caps season ticket holder who will be at the game.
I'll try to get a firsthand report if I can.

FYI

Although, the Caps site says no TV and CSN Washington (the Caps TV Home) doesn't have the game tonight.....

Oh yeah, the game is at the Verizon Center. The Iceplex is the Caps new practice rink.
