The Buffalo Sabres close out their preseason tonight with an exhibition game against Adler Mannheim of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). The game will be played at the SAP Arena in Mannheim, Germany (1:30 p.m. ET).

Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff said on Tuesday that Jhonas Enroth will start in goal, and is expected to play the entire game. Mannheim-native Jochen Hecht is Buffalo’s only injured player right now, and will not dress for tonight’s game.

Ruff expects a highly competitive game against Mannheim, one of the DEL’s top teams.

“They almost beat San Jose last season,” said Ruff. “They take a lot pride in their play, and want to stay competitive against an NHL team. They know it would be a real feather in their cap if they could defeat a team from the NHL.”

Mannheim’s top four scorers are Canadian: Yanick Lehoux (5+3), Chris Lee (4+4), Mike Glumac (2+4) and Kenneth Magowan (2+4). Other familiar names on the team include Yannic Seidenberg (his brother Dennis plays for the Boston Bruins) and Nikolai Goc (brother Marcel plays for Florida). Defenseman Shawn Belle has played 20 NHL games, most recently with Edmonton and Colorado last season. Belle also played for Canada at the 2004 and 2005 World Junior Championship.

The Sabres are 138-147-49 all-time in the preseason. Buffalo is 25-11-3 in preseason action since the start of the 2005-06 season.

Offseason acquisition Christian Ehrhoff currently leads all Sabres in scoring during the preseason. The defenseman has earned points in all four games he has dressed for in the preseason for a total of five (2+3).

The Sabres will then begin their regular season schedule as part of the NHL Premiere Series with a game against Anaheim in Helsinki, Finland on Friday, Oct. 7; and another against Los Angeles in Berlin, Germany on Saturday, Oct. 8. The team returns to Buffalo for its home opener against Carolina on Friday, Oct. 14.
