He talks about how hits to the head will be a big discussion.

The thing that really caught my eye though:

Quote:
There's a small group of GMs who plan to bring up their belief that the standard of officiating has gradually slipped from where the game was coming out of the lockout -- that obstruction has crept its way back into the game. This could be a heated discussion. I'm not sure the league agrees with these GMs at all. Stay tuned.

Personally, I think they're right. We discussed this possibility at forums.sabres.com a few years back, and I believe we were split down the middle.

More and more, you see hooks and holds. The big one is reaching the arm around players when pinning them along the boards.

I think they've eased off of calling these plays, and when I went back to see some DVRed games I have saved from 05-06, it seems as though they were much more strict.

Goals have been gradually decreasing each year since the lockout. This could be a pretty good explanation as to why.

They haven't called defenseman interference in 2+ seasons on dump ins. You're entitled to establish position and make a forward go around you to get the puck, but you're not supposed to be allowed to to actively try and impede the oncoming forward. It was the standard in the dead puck era, and has crept back into the game over the last couple years.

So as soon as the Sabres start drafting big guys and start changing the make up of the team, its gonna go back to high speed run and gun again....

haha jk, a mix of both is what wins you cups. I'm just stoked they're actually noticing the shitty reffing jobs.

I think the Sabres have been careful about who they're drafting.

They want some more physicality, but they're not sacrificing skating ability either.

Look at Myers. Kassian is a very good skater as well. Weber has very good mobility.

I think Darcy's done a pretty good job.

The league is obviously much more like it was before the lockout. There's a TON of interference going on that isn't called.
