did you see the rest of the team? it was horrible. it was not their fault they were not a solid team. didnt one year, the thrashers have to use 8 goalie because of injury?

They just said big names, I was purposely ignoring the other secondary players because not one team can win on two Superstars alone.

Pittsburgh did not win the cup solely on Malkin's and Crosby's scoring in the playoffs. Their secondary scoring and role players did their job which let them win.

Datsyuk, Lidstrom, and Zetterberg wasn't the reason the Wings made back to back finals also, they also had Draper, Flippula, Cleary and other guys who scored timely goals also.

Having a superstar means nothing, OV couldn't even bring Washington to the playoffs alone, he has Semin, Backstrom, Green, and others who help with the secondary scoring to let that team win also. Weren't they 6-0-2 or something without OV this year?

This is funny. Is anyone insinuating that NJ is WORSE with Kovie? You can argue they gave up too much, but we already have a thread for that. This seems like a weak attempt at trying to say we looked good by balking at him. Hmm

I just want to point out the 'Last 10' records for the Sabres and Devils.

NJD 3-5-2
BUF 3-5-2

However, for some reason, Buffalo is considered to be falling apart, yet the Devils aren't given the same treatment.

Interesting double standard.

And Havlat too, right? Or was that just Ottawa?

I don't know if 6 games is a long enough stretch to properly know if a newly acquired player is going to be effective or not.

But I do have to say that I'm glad that Darcy isn't the type of GM to get caught up in the free agency hype and over compensate (whether it's with players/picks or a lucrative contract) for one player.

Now 3-5-1 since the Kovalchuk trade, and they got shut out by the Oilers last night.

Where's all the goal scoring, Kovi?

bullshit.

he has 8 points in 9 games. thats pretty ok to me. last i heard, he was considering signing a front loaded, long term deal with the devils, and if not, LA wants him bad. real bad. 10 millions dollars bad. he wont go to the KHL, I dont think.

No one ever doubted his ability to put up points.

They do doubt whether or not his points outweigh his negative impact defensively and in a locker room.

At the end of the day, wins are what it's all about.

kovalchuk isnt the reason for the devils drop off. its a long season, and a slight slide and his arrival are nothing more then coincidence. i dont think hes a cancer and he hurts the team.

As much as I love seeing the Devils hit a skid after snagging Kovalchuk, it definitely isn't because of Kovalchuk, IMO.

I think losing Oduya and Bergfors is having a bigger impact on chemistry than once thought. Imagine that, trading for a superstar fucking up team chemistry :)

We'll see how the Devils finish and revisit this.

Indeed. The proof will be in the pudding during the playoffs and beyond. If he performs for them in the playoffs, and/or signs with them long term, then what they gave up was worth it. If not, well, we'll see.

Wouldn't that make him their first major star since Gretzky? or have I missed someone in between. (What team did Luc play for?)

You could put up 50 points in 15 games and still be a detriment to the locker room.

Just because you're an amazing player doesn't mean you have good locker room characteristics.

I don't think he is, but they need to change their view point on offense with him and also their defense, which I have no idea if they have or not.
