This could go in the Lounge, but for some reason I felt compelled to put it here.

From Abel to Yzerman is a blogging community for the Red Wings, and one of their members if Guilherme Calciolari, or Herm for short. Herm loves the Red Wings, but has never been to a game...why you ask? Because Herm lives on the opposite side of the Equator in freakin Brazil.

A site was set up called Herm to Hockeytown to gather donations for Herm to come to Detroit to see his first ice hockey game ever. He'll be landing in Detroit the morning of the game, on the 26th. That's Friday. The good news is they surpassed the necessary funds needed to cover the expenses of Herm's flight, hotel stay, and tickets and swag, so now everything they receive in excess gets donated to the Children's Hospital of Michigan.

Donations are still open until then, so I thought it would be cool seeing as the hockey community is a truly global community (like the Sabres community we've grown) to give us a chance to help a brother get to his first game and help out a hospital, too.

(Tom or Brian, feel free to move this if you wanna)

One of the coolest things I've ever heard

The event was huge. The Red Wings let Herm inside the dressing rooms, where the local media interviewed him. He got a signed Cleary jersey, and a sign autographed by the whole team. There was a party in his honor attended by hundreds of Red Wings fans and his fellow bloggers.

His life has been changed forever...it's so awesome :)

I can't get over how ridiculously cool of a gesture that is. Another reason why my country, and my sport are hands down the best in the biz

Sorry Canada, but you're still a close second!

That is awesome.

Glad he finally got to see a game, and it was most likely a Red Wings win also, so his first game and they win.

As I said in the GDT, the call on Rivet was horseshit. The Bruins player was holding onto Rivet's stick like it was the last fucking raft on the Titanic.
