New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Rangers didn't give forward Tim Kennedy much of an audition, sending him to the American Hockey League on Wednesday.

The Rangers, who agreed to terms with the free-agent forward on a one-year deal at the end of August, did not dress him in New York's first two regular- season games. Kennedy had posted two assists in four preseason contests.

It is another chapter in a strange odyssey for the 24-year-old Buffalo native.

His hometown Sabres waived and bought out Kennedy's contract after he was awarded a $1 million, one-year deal from an arbitrator earlier in the off- season. The buyout was worth $333,333 over the next two years, and Kennedy became an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with any club.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement states that a team cannot walk away from any free-agent contract given through an arbitrator's decision that is lower than $1,611,180 per year, but Kennedy's salary afforded Buffalo the right to waive him and buy him out.

In his first full league campaign, the former 2005 sixth-round pick of the Washington Capitals compiled 10 goals and 26 points with 50 penalty minutes in 78 games.

Quite the couple months for Timmy K...

He'll be ok.

In the last year, he's learned that hockey is a business, and it's not always fair. Plus, he's getting paid pretty darn good to be in the AHL. :)

He's getting paid $167K by the Sabres on top of his salary from the Rangers...he's gonna live like a king in Hartford.

With the way his luck's been lately, I'd be packing money away and living as cheap as possible. :)

What are the numbers on Kennedy salary-wise?

Let's see...
He was getting 800k from the Sabres
He wanted 835k, but they said no.
Arbitration says 1 mil
Sabres say f-no and pay 167k for next 2 years to get rid of him.
Rangers sign him for 550k
Rangers send him to Hartford.

I know this sounds like one of those trick math jokes, but....
How much does Tim Kennedy get paid this season now?

NYR signed him to a 1 way deal.

He makes $550k this year from NYR, and $167k from Buffalo for a total of $717k this season.

He is not signed for next year, but he still makes $167k even if he doesn't sign anywhere.

While in Hartford he's got to eat Ted's steamed hamburgers, hot dogs at Doogie's or Woody's, and have pizza at Randy's on Wooster St.

I bet people are going to think differently about signing in NY now.

You could sign me to an NHL minimum contract to rot in the AHL, and I'd totally take that. :p

I think Jeff Finger has the best job last year, he literally sat in the press box over the past 2 years and got payed 4 million bucks. That is the ultimate job. :D
