The trade bait is reported to be the 8th pick and RFA forward Jakub Voracek, who will have to be re-signed in the range of 1.5-2.0 mil.

I think the most similar trade package if Buffalo were to make a pitch is the 16th pick and RFA forward Nathan Gerbe. Gerbe and Voracek had identical production last season, but Voracek is 6'1" and 205 lbs and Gerbe is a midget.

Maybe Buffalo could throw in a 3rd rd pick for 2012 to even it out, but does anyone think Buffalo should be in on those negotiations? If so, what other trade bait?

Edit - sorry, this started out as NHL talk but might need to go into trade talk.

Like I said in the Bryzgalov thread, that 1st round pick, Sekera, Weber, Butler, and Kassian could all be trade bait, and I'll agree with Gerbe being a possibility as well. if I were Philly's GM, I'd turn down Gerbe and the 1st, and hold out for a better package.

I'd take Carter for Gerbe, a 1st and a 3rd in a heartbeat but it won't happen.
Voracek and the 8th pick is still the better offer and I think if Carter is on the market there will be even better offers.

gerbes solid second half has his trade value up and up. seeing how i dont believe gerbe is a long term solution for the sabres, now might be the best time to move him. depends how the FO sees him though.

Some fans are so enamored with Gerbe as the 'little man that could' sentiment. That's great that he could pick up 16 goals, and he could possibly be a regular 20 goal scorer. He won't ever be what Buffalo is missing though - a big and tough forward that can forecheck like hell or be a top line 70 pt center. I'd prefer to still see what Gerbe can do here, but he's not untouchable by any means.

Ideally, no matter who is being traded for, I'd prefer to see Butler, Sekera, and any combination of prospect/pick as the trade bait. If someone wants Gerbe though (or Weber, Gragnani, Leopold, Kassian, Adam, etc) for a player that truly fills a big hole on our roster, it has to be considered. I'd list some of our vet forwards too if any of them had trade-able contracts.

The Blue Jackets are letting Moreau, Clark, and Rivet walk presumably to allow for making a free agent splash regardless of whether or not they get Carter. Interesting.

Sorry if there is a trade for Carter and it involves Gerbe and a pick that's a good deal for us, not the Flyers.
