Both are responsible for their actions. Both did things that were both legally and morally wrong. One paid with his life and the other will pay legally.

I'd like to be able to read the newspaper from 7000 BC, and see stories like Ughbart dying after eating the funny berries. Gootwert and Mowburk told him not to do it, but Ughbart just had to try because they gave him the oogie woogies last time he tried. Fast forward to 2011 AD and see how much the times have changed. Same junk, different names (Boogaard and Winehouse).

Big difference some of you guys are missing though. Both the Boogaard brothers were (and one still is) good people.

I'm going to play the part that no one has played yet but one or some of you usually do. We weren't there. We know he went to rehab but we don't know how much pain he was still in due to athletics.

Do you know how many people will use oxys or a similar drug and drink alcohol on any given night? A lot. Does it make it right? No, but you're still missing the point.

Some of you are making them out to be bad guys instead of just making a horrible mistake.

And the jaywalking thing was a joke to prove a point. But I bet you more people die from illegally jaywalking than from Aaron Boogaard. Yes, that's a joke too.

It was a bad thing that happened to them but it does not make them a horrible family.

He told his brother he was going on a binger. It had nothing to do with his pain.

And did you read the article? His family said he was addicted to painkillers. He was in and out of rehab twice. I think it's awful that he died because of his addiction, but denying it didn't exist doesn't do anything.

I have never took anything like pills from a family member because that is just plain stupid. You have no idea how you would react to something that is not prescribed to you.

And to get back to the boogaard brothers they are messed up. Why would you play with painkillers and alcohol now a days.

He was addicted to painkillers because of an initial prescription to one, probably. The guy was banged up a lot, considering what his job was. A prescription to any narcotics is dangerous because you can always get addicted.

Unfortunately for Boogaard, he probably fell victim to this, his brother had the pills. An accident. Nothing more.

I'm not trying to dispute how his addiction started, nor am I judging him for it. His brother didn't just happen to have the pain killers, he rationed them out for him. The problem is, you don't give a drug addict the very drugs he's addicted to when he just gets out of rehab. He told his brother he wanted them to go on a binger, a night of partying. The fact that he was originally taking them as pain medication had nothing to do with why he took them the night he died.

Obviously his brother didn't intentionally try to harm him, but when you give you someone illegal drugs, you have committed a crime regardless of intent. Aaron is actually lucky Derek took other painkillers that night because had he died with only evidence of that one pill in his system, he would have been charged with manslaughter. I use lucky for lack of a better term because the situation is awful all the way around, but being charged with your brother's death would probably the worst case.

It's definitely really sad and I'm sure the family feels like they've been through enough and I can only imagine how guilty his brother feels. I do think, though, that it was a horrible lapse of judgment and irresponsible of Aaron to do. I know he was trying to help him by controlling how much he got and Derek got them on his own anyway, but it still doesn't change the fact that he continued to perpetuate Derek's addiction that he was clearly unable to break free from. The fact that people are standing up for Derek Boogaard and bashing Amy Winehouse has spoken volumes to me because apparently some addictions are forgivable while the other one makes the person a piece of shit. I don't care how they both came to be addicts, the fact is that they were and died really young because they couldn't overcome it. They're not the first ones, either.
