"The National Hockey League announced on Monday night that Montreal Canadiens forward Georges Laraque has been suspended for five games without pay, and will forfeit $38,860.10 in salary for an incident that took place during a game against the Detroit Red Wings last Saturday.

At 8:52 of the first period, Laraque was involved in an incident where he deliberately extended his knee and, through his actions, caused an injury to Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall. Laraque was assessed a minor penalty for tripping on the play.

"Mr. Laraque's actions were dangerous and caused a significant injury to his opponent," said NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell.

Laraque will miss Montreal's next five games – Nov. 24 against Columbus; Nov. 25 at Pittsburgh; Nov. 28 against Washington, Dec. 1 against Toronto and Dec. 3 at Buffalo. He will be eligible to return on Dec. 4 against the Boston Bruin"

HABS' LARAQUE BANNED FIVE GAMES FOR KNEE-ON-KNEE COLLISION

"The National Hockey League handed Montreal Canadiens tough guy Georges Laraque a five-game suspension for his knee-on-knee collision with Red Wings defenceman Niklas Kronwall on Saturday night.

Laraque had a chance to tell the league his side of the story at a hearing with league disciplinarian Colin Campbell earlier in the day. Laraque waived his right to an in-person hearing and instead of flying to New York, he spoke to Campbell over the phone. Because the meeting was still considered an in-person hearing by the NHL, the league had the right to hand down five or more games.

Kronwall had to be helped from the ice following the hit and was not able to put any weight on his left knee.

The Red Wings expect Kronwall to miss at least a month of time after an MRI on Sunday revealed a significant sprain of the medial collateral ligament in Kronwall's left knee."

...and another injury. And another substantial suspension. But, not for a head-shot...Curious.

Deserved that suspension, so why didn't Cooke get one, or is it because Crosby blew Bettman enough no one on his team will ever get suspended?

I'm assuming the 5 games is due to the severity of the injury that was caused.

Besides; NHL Hockey is a man's game, and I doubt any players are fellating the league administration......

He deserved the suspension but it was bound to happen with all the times Krowall hit guys that are illegal.
