I still like the old system of 2 pts for a win, 1 point for a tie and ZERO points for a loss. I don't care if you lose in the first 60 minutes, in OT 4v4 play or a shootout...a loss is a loss and you shouldn't get jack shit out of it.

How can you have 1 point for a tie when there are no ties?

In the old system, there were actually ties...thats my main point. The old system worked.

We know about the ties from back in the day, he was just unsure because of how you worded it if you still for some reason believed there still were ties.

This whole thing just went to shit. Let's get back on topic.

ROFL...Fair enough. I don't like the 3 pt system and I wish they would revert back to the original NHL scoring system.

Well, all that other stuff aside ( :p ) the only way you can go back to the old system is to re-institute the potential for a tie, and I think that's something the league has no intention of ever doing.

I think that without a tie, the system is easy. W/L records only, nothing else matters.

If you're going to keep a points system of any kind, I think that each game should be worth the same number of total points REGARDLESS of the outcome. However you allocate them can be up for debate, but each game must be valued identically in my opinion.

I personally like just a win/loss ratio, like every other sport does here.

I wouldn't want to see 3 points for a win, because the good teams will still find a way to actually win the 3 points or the 2 in any given circumstance.

The whole pity point is for those teams barely winning games, plus it keeps the playoff races closer which is very exciting for some teams especially in the 7-10 range since it makes every game either a must win for those teams to make it.

Leave it alone right now, or change it to winning percentage. Still keep shootouts and stuff, but count them as a win or loss.

I definitely don't like the current system, mainly because it artificially compresses the standings with all those loser points. The problem with going to strictly a W/L system is that the SO will come into play to ultimately decide tie games, and that's a crappy way to determine a winner.

It's not what a lot of people want, but I would prefer the old system of 2 pt wins, 1 pt tie after 5 min OT, 0 pt loss. That system is at least fair as far as the standings go. To help eliminate ties I would extend the OT session to 10 mins. If that isn't enough, or people really need to have only a W/L column, then still extend the OT to 10 mins so that a real hockey play determines the outcome more than the dog and pony SO session.

Under the old system, Buffalo's record would be 14-9-2.
